POPSHappy Earth Day Nader/Gonzalez!
There's no denying the Laws of Nature - the only way to get the harvest you want is to plant the right seeds. It's springtime in my hometown of Akron, Ohio. The robins, finches, bluejays and cardinals are busy building nests. The buds are opening so quickly on the dogwood tree outside my window that it is almost detectable to the naked eye. The redheaded woodpecker high atop the tree laughs his Woody laugh and I spot him quickly. The tiny fresh blades of grass gingerly poke their heads up through the dirt like the delicate babies that they are, preparing for their future of being wriggle material for children's toes. Spring has sprung! We have had a long, snowy winter, but now it is time for me to get to work. I'm a web developer/mom by day, and amateur gardener by night. Gardening isn't easy for me, and I've spent quite a few years watching the masters before I gave it a try. When I was a child, my grandparents grew enough good fresh food to feed their family as well as the exte

POPSCNN Calls BS on Palin's 'Terrorist' Claimby
Wisco Yesterday 1:19 PM The McCain campaign has made a big thing about how they plan on going negative . Apparently, this is the best they can do -- guilt by association. McCain-Palin desperately needs to change the subject from the economy, but this strategy is pretty certain to backfire. Every time they come out with one of these things, Obama can say, "See? They don't want to talk about the economy. They want to drag this down in the dirt. They're out of material." Obama seems pretty hard to throw off message, so they're going to have to do better than this. And I don't think they can.

POPSCenturies old code survives in remote Albanian village The code covers everything from inheritances and the rights of the church to the treatment of livestock. In Theth, nobody will sell land to an outsider, or even to another villager. Brides must come from outside the valley, a tradition that follows along the lines of the Kanun's rule that marriage within the same clan is forbidden. "The Kanun is the law. Just like the state law," explains Gjovalin Lokthi, 39, a gruff "kryeplak," or elected chief of the village.

POPSToo Big to Fail and Too Small to Matter
This text was from Norman Solomon. Look closely at the lower left of the pic.... The leverage for the U.S. Treasury to subsidize Wall Street is too big to fail. The leverage to subsidize mothers and children kicked off welfare is too small to matter. The political momentum for bailing out corporate America is too big to fail. The political momentum for funding adequate payment rates from Medicaid to reimburse healthcare providers is too small to matter. The oil conglomerates are too big to fail. Global warming is too small to matter. The prison industry is too big to fail. The need for preschool is too small to matter. Corporate power is too big to fail. The ordeals of working people and want-to-be-working people are too small to matter. Human worth as maximized by dollars: too big to fail. Human worth as affirmed by humanistic values: too small to matter. The current odds of pumping at least several hundred billion taxpayer dollars into corporate America: too b

POPSBuffett Buys Goldman Stake in `Economic Pearl Harbor' The one nice thing about capitalism is that it cannot fail, it may take punches and get beat up, but it always rebounds. Granted we, little people get stuck wiping up the dirt, while the ultra rich (excluding Buffet) continue to live pampered lives. Russia and other countries however will have a rockier road with their markets collapsing. Least so it appears.

POPSBill Clinton's Complimentary Remarks On Sarah and Todd Clinton concluded his statement on Palin by asking why "say anything bad about a person" and why couldn't everyone just "be happy for her elevation to the ticket," even though they disagree with her. This is a surprisingly gracious statement from Clinton on Palin, and he is absolutely correct. Politics shouldn't be about talking repeating vicious rumors concerning someone's family members and hacking into their email accounts to look for dirt on them. Perhaps both parties need to listen to what Clinton is saying; however, the left bears the brunt of responsibility for the smear campaigns against Palin since her name was announced as the candidate.

POPS McCain and Palin Hit Northern Virginia Thompson said (according to my notes), "The Washington insiders say, 'we don't know her. She hasn't been on the Sunday shows. She hasn't been on the cover of Time magazine.' Well, whose fault is that? She ain't been hidin' from anybody! ... They've sent a planeload of folks to Alaska to look into her background. I think they ought to send a planeload of people to Chicago for a few days - they've had two years to do it!" By the way, while the crowd was enthralled by Palin, it's worth noting that the crowd did start chanting "John Mc-Cain! John Mc-Cain!" at various points, and not just when he was speaking. So it's not like he's the forgotten man in his own campaign.
