POPSExpert concerned by DIY genetic tests While DIY gene tests may have their place, often they can only highlight a factor, or give a likelihood rather than a certainty. I would think they would also tend to be used by people who expected to find problems. It being hard for their view of the results to be either objective, or subject to comparison with other possibilities and cases. I have trouble imagining a better test than family history, and the fact remains, that despite any number of tests our genes wont change.(Yet?) An interesting thing I heard which is somewhat related particularly with the statistics regarding the likelihood of cancer from any number of sources, is that by the age of 85 50% of people will have had some form of cancer. (One of the side effects of living for another generation.) I can't be sure of the accuracy of the figure, but it makes me feel more comfortable about smoking. At least if I'm going to get cancer, I can get it doing something I enjoy.

POPSA DIY tiny cabin for about $2000 From a blog on "tiny houses." The builder featured here designed and built his own 14'x14' cabin, including solar-powered water pump, composting toilet, and a propane-powered refrigerator and stove, for about $2000.

POPS'Cut not sink' emissions says expert
Many things as our history has shown can't be, and should not be tested while being put into practice. A quick study of our history of DIY efforts shows us that. We still have trouble learning the hard way. I have trouble imagining many of our solutions doing more than taking a system that is unbalanced and making it more unbalanced. Many a persons famous last words have been 'this time it will be different.- and better'. Which can be clearly stupid, and the reason they are last words. We certainly need to give nature more credit and respect t that we are. It has its own means of self correction. We can work out how to work according to the principles of nature, rather than our own vanity, or we'll be corrected out of existence. Still, a new thread could start 'Homo Novalis' but it doesn't take very many individuals to establish the start of a new line. the rest of us may soon be obsolete. (soon in evolutionary time) and a subject in achaeology classes. Existential aversion therapy

POPSArmour Etch: plastic lens reviver I was also talked into the UV/anti-glare coating on my last pair of glasses. BAD CHOICE. I strongly recommend AVOIDING it. What they don't tell you is that it reduces glare, but is a scratch magnet. Arrgh. This might be worth trying.
