POPSThe emergent danger to personal liberty More: (Unfortunately, the use of government as a tool to enhance liberty is anathema to conservatives, focused as they are on the eighteenth-century threat alone.) If we lose this health insurance battle—or even if we win it—I’m still a progressive. I’ll still be pushing to right the balance. I expect to work on it all my life. …3. I worked for a while with a sister of one of the McLibel defendants. I know how bad it can get. Click through to read the whole thing, including footnotes 1 & 2.

POPSSerenity HDDVD cracked and on bittorrent DRM will always be cracked, and it didn't take long for HDDVD to fall down. I wonder what these movies will compress down to when the community gets a hold of them. How amazing would it be to have HD quality movies on a single DVD?

POPSCanadians soon to pay taxes on legal music downloads Yes.. so let's punish the people who are legally downloading our content.. that'll make them want to continue to do so... You know what? Forget it. I'm going back to pirating my music. I've been paying for Napster pretty much since it was avaialbe in Canada as a legal service. And yes, the tax would only amount to a few cents a month, but that's not the point. Your punishing me, your loyal client. And that excuse about Oh, i may make a copy fo rmy {device anme}. Is BS. I PAY EXTRA ALREADY to legally copy these tunes to my mp3 players..($15/moth for the to-go service as opposed to $10/month). FUCK YOU RECORDING INDUSTRY! You won't get another cent from me until you smarten the fuck up. And I thought will all the big labels starting to switch to DRM-Free, that you might have gotten a clue... The funny thing is that apparently CRIA (our version of RIAA) may have been in opposition to this tax...

POPSUnited States Pushing International, Mandatory Copyright Laws. Guilty Until Proven Innocent! "* * Mandatory prohibitions on breaking DRM, even if doing so for a lawful purpose (e.g., to make a work available to disabled people; for archival preservation; because you own the copyrighted work that is locked up with DRM)" Now that is a worriying development. Let see the Teabaggers chew on this. Nah, it's a pro-corporate treaty which enforces American will on the REST of the world, so it doesn't set off the NWO alarm bells.

POPSJobs speaks out against DRM There's a million things I hate about DRM, but the main one is that it's often used to restrict behavior that its not illegal, but is simply not in the record companies favor. Give me a reasonably priced, DRM-free .mp3 download service, and I'll never buy a CD again.
