POPSLearning How Not To Be Afraid When Kandel's team used radiation to blunt the birth of new cells in the dentate gyrus, they discovered that their interventions both slowed safety learning and stunted the antidepressant effects of learned safety. Another study that points to the origin of fear as a biological entity. the glitch is it turning into anxiety.

POPSIf Spiders Took Drugs... Just in case you've ever wondered... This is what webs spiders make when they're high. (They were fed with drug-dosed flies)

POPSMedical students fail drug tests They were generally unaware of street names of common recreational drugs, a knowledge that can be critical in diagnosis, and the prescribing an antidote or remedy. Very often the information given is from people who are delirious, feel threatened, concerned about being responsible for an overdose, or hysterical because of the fear someone they know well may not survive. They can find it hard to trust a doctor without a clue.

POPSB.I.T.C.H. Condemns Sarah Palin
continued from article............... Fortunately, I have the gift of discerning coy sins less careful Christians — and my inattentive Savior — routinely overlook. And as founder of Bringing Integrity To Christian Homemakers, one sin pings my values radar louder than an incoming sortie of foul smelling demons: Narcissistic parents who irresponsibly spit out babies they have neither the interest nor time to care about. That’s the problem with people who regard birth as simply the end of a pregnancy, rather than the beginning of a life. Birth marks the start of work, not a self-congratulatory furlough. Absent through either a preoccupation with stoking a ravenous blast furnace of an ego (Mrs. Palin) or simply because they’d rather be fishing (Mr. Palin), the Palins selfishly make a shambles of their children’s lives. Drugs, sex, alcohol, vendetta’s and arrests! Honestly, it all sounds a bit like Gossip Girl, only in a pioneer setting with a wardrobe by Sears.

POPSMentally Ill Killed by Medication
The gentle, artistic boy who played the cello and bass guitar was long gone. "At 15 Daniel was being bullied at school and then started to have strange thoughts, anxiety and sleep problems. A doctor prescribed him a powerful drug called Stelazine and that was the start of a nightmare which eventually led to his death. He had bad physical reactions to the medication straight away but every symptom was seen as more evidence of schizophrenia and treated with more medication. Alternative treatments were never an option; keeping him calm was the priority. "Daniel was really passive and never complained but my mum was convinced the medication was going to kill him. She changed GPs many times, went private, bought vitamins and demanded blood tests; getting better care for Daniel became her full-time occupation but she was accused of interfering. In the months before his death, Daniel suffered from three major epileptic fits brought on by drinking too much water. Why was he so thirsty? I

POPSKenya deports US author of anti-Obama book An invitation to the book launch said the event would expose Obama's "deep secret ties" to mafia-like groups in Kenya. "During his stay, Corsi also plans to meet Sen. Obama's brother, George Hussein Onyango Obama, who lives on $12 a year in the sprawling Huruma slums and hand him a $1,000 cheque," said the invitation, published in local papers. Some right-wing U.S. commentators have said the case of George Obama, who is a half-brother, shows Barack Obama's double standards. But George Obama has told media he is happy with his life and that his case has been exaggerated for political ends. One Obama fan in Nairobi, Jack Okinyi, applauded Corsi's expulsion. "His actions were highly provocative, that he dared bring such a book here. He was lucky that the authorities got him before Kenyans got their hands on him," he said.

POPSAfghanistan Unwinnable? Ask the Russians about winning a war in Afghanistan. It reminds me of the Mony Python sketch - "Not much fun in Stalingrad?" Existing strategies probably don't allow "victory" because of our myopia on drugs and the hearts and minds of the populace.

POPSBush Gov’t involved in Sex and Drugs and Oil and Roll: UPDATED “Sexual relationships with prohibited sources cannot, by definition, be arms-length,” Devaney said. (hahahahahaha) The reports describe a fraternity house atmosphere inside the Denver Minerals Management Service office responsible for marketing oil and natural gas that energy companies barter to the government in lieu of cash royalty payments for drilling on federal lands. The government received $4.3 billion in such royalty-in-kind payments last year. The oil and gas is then resold to energy companies or put in the nation’s emergency stockpile. …read on

POPSWoman wins lawsuit against drug dealer Seems to me a bit like suing McD's because your fat. Here's an idea .. You know.. teh drug is illigal for a reason. So instead of blaming your dealer, ans suing him because you were too fucking stupid to no do Meth, how about taking some responsibility... Now, don't get me wrong, the dealer deserves to be punished because, well, he's a drug dealer. But not this way. Its just too stupid. This is the kindof flagerant lawsuite you expect to see in the US, not Canada...

POPSCoercion and Freedom if you were to ask, say, the average senior citizen whether Social Security, Medicare and prescription drug subsidies should be continued, he would probably answer yes. The same would be true if you asked a college professor whether higher education should continue to be subsidized, or a farmer or a dairyman whether their products should be subsidized, or a manufacturer whether there should be tariffs and quotas on foreign products that compete with his product. The problem with congressmen producing favors and privileges to all interest groups is that it creates what none of us wants: massive control, numerous dictates and micromanagement of our lives.

POPSFederal sweep targeting illegal immigrants snares 1,150 statewide This reminds me of the failed US war against drugs. Arrest lots of folks at the street level, get on the 6 o'clock news, and leave the big fish profiting from exploiting economic immigrants free to go on fishing for greed driven profits. In the drug war brown and black young men in jail by hordes and money men go their merry way - Shades of the $700 billion bailout!

POPSBBC program Links Temporal lobe to Spituality
Now. I find this stuff fascinatin'! Well worth looking at the BBC videos! I'm not so sure about the text from LJ--kind of a dilletante, that one... Bein' an old Hippie who did a lot of psychedelic drugs (a long time ago--and I'm alive and well 'cuz I avoided Coke and other dumbass drugs) ...so the value of my "spiritual" experiences may be directly correlated with the types of "divine" chemicals i took like psylocibin, peyote, LSD and the good herb Pakalolo---or as the guy says in the last video--it may be God's way of giving us an antenna towards the Divine and doesn't make the experience any less real or important. Developing a Spiritual consciousness rather than the mundane, everyday patterns of thought is quite important, neh? I find that I can get some of the same results by meditating (if I do it with regularity and depth, losing the "I")...of course it's not as much fun without the colors and stuff but just as meaningful, if not more. But then I didn't use drugs as recreation b
