POPSThe Earth Will Be Just Fine, Thank You Despite its many flaws, I’m a big fan of human civilization. I marvel at our capacity to organize matter and information, at our ability to learn from mistakes and pass that learning down to subsequent generations. Civilization—writing, cities, trade, the whole lot of it—makes us unique on this planet and, as far as we can tell so far, in our part of the universe.

POPSSave the languages, save the world Linguistic integrity is as important to our survival as a species as environmentalism. Check out the source to see why. Many resources and information at www.terralingua.org.

POPSWhy hate Gore? Granted, giving Gore the Nobel Prize may well be a political stunt somewhat out of proportion with the relevance of his actions. On the other hand humorless extreme conservatives have even more distorted notion of Gore. Their obsessive hatred of him is even more surreal than the hype. Why do they care so much about him? Why froth at the mouth over just one politician? Klugman provides some interesting answers, but also seems a little to simplistic. I have long been puzzeled on the vhemence with which conservatives react against environmentalism, and I don't think its as simple as pure greed.

POPSDisaster Gives Birth to Greenest Town in America To leverage environmentalism to rebuild and sustain itself in the wake of near total destruction, it just may unwittingly be writing a modern survival guide for rural America. Currently, the town has completed town houses for working class families that are LEED gold certified. Gold certification means these places will be almost twice as efficient as they used to be. A lot of what's happening in Greensburg is some of the first in the country.

POPSGreen Communism
Owning a car opens up possibilities to a person that is beyond their reach otherwise, it opens up a freedom that many millions do not currently enjoy. The ability to find work at further distances from their homes than ever gives them more choices to find lucrative employment opportunities, the ability to find markets and entertainments are also greatly expanded. All this greatly expands individual freedom. If many millions more of the people of India (and around the world) find themselves able to afford this new car, it will incredibly improve their standard of living. It will also force the government to redirect their own efforts to internal improvements to accommodate this rise in cars that will add even more to raising the standard of living in once poor countries. Green communists do not care about people and these two stories add to the ever growing proof that enviro-communists have gravitated to environmentalism as a replacement for an overt espousal of communist ideals.

POPSCan Capitalism Become Green? From the Orion Magazine... The original article is very long, I just clipped some tiny parts. Reading the source article is recommended.

POPSTorture & Enemies of the State
Of course we only might torture terrorists who are enemies of the state. After all, we're doing this to protect America, right? But the VERY important question is: who is an enemy of the state? How do you know you aren't one? In China, in the name of protecting the state, they are torturing and imprisoning environmental activists like Wu Lihong, and journalists and anyone else who doesn't jump on board the "Harmonious Society," "One World One Dream." Especially people who embarrass the government. And how do you know that won't happen to us? Let me illustrate the slippery slope in three steps: 1. We torture terrorists 2. Because of extreme groups like Earth First, "Eco-terrorism" becomes a major concern for Bush in his third term. ;) 3. Moderate environmental groups are conflated with the radical ones, meaning everyone who ever signed a Green Peace petition or wears a hemp "head covering" is a suspect terrorist. If you condone Guantanamo, remember this: you might be next.

POPSA New Brand Of Environmentalism "The real story, the basic story, the story I would like to hear, see, read, is the story about how connected we are, not only with one another but also with the place we live in. And how it's almost infinitely rich, but it's in some danger; and that despite the danger, we can do something to overcome it."

POPSObama's Bad Example I really do not like this man. He will turn our Country into a servant of all things regressive while claiming to be a leader of environmentalism/recyclalism/global protectionism. He'll milk our resources for the betterment of the World instead of increasing our resource capacity for the benefit of the World. Oh, that he may be a McGovern.

POPSAiring Out Your Laundry Some people want to legislate everything! Matt Reck is the kind of eco-conscious guy who feeds his trees with bathwater and recycles condensation drops from his air conditioners to water plants. His family also uses a clothesline. But on July 9, Otto Hagen, president of Reck's HOA in Wake Forest, N.C., notified him that a neighbor had complained about his line. The Recks ignored the warning and still dry their clothes on a rope that extends from their swing set to a pole across the yard. "Many people claim to be environmentally friendly but don't take matters into their own hands," says Reck, 37. HOA's Hagen has decided to hold off taking action. "I'm not going to go crazy," he says. "But if Matt keeps his line and more neighbors complain, I'll have to address it again."

POPSAbusing Freedom In The Name Of The Planet … But to argue, as it is done by many contemporary environmentalists, that these questions have already been answered with a consensual yes and that there is an unchallenged scientific consensus about this, is unjustified. And not only unjustified, it is also morally and intellec itual deceptive, and this is bureaucrasomething that I can’t live with. Like their predecessors , they will be certain that they have the right to sacrifice man and his freedom to make their idea reality. In the past, it was in the nature of the masses or of the proletariat, this time in the name of the planet. Structurally, it is very similar. The current danger, as I see it, is environmentalism, and especially its strongest version, climate alarmism...

POPSWho is Antonio Gramsci? - You Better Learn "His methods became in fact, the "field manual" for the many that followed. If you understand Gramsci, you will understand the "peculiar" and "weird" theories that are in vogue today. And you will understand that they are not the work of "weird crazy people" but rather of calculating and quite intelligent operatives." I IMPLORE all Right-thinking people to educate themselves on the ideas of Materialists. They are more prevalent now than they ever have been. You need to know what is behind the trends in HIgher Education, Political Correctness, Environmentalism, The thousand or so political action, interest groups that tear the fabric of America (ACLU, NEA, Think Progress, Moveon.org) and a thousand others. They are founded in Progressive/Marxist/Materialist views.

POPSLike Lemmings To The Sea All of this assumes that mankind is the primary cause of global warming anyway. You might be surprised to learn that there has never been a single scientific paper published which has ruled out natural climate variability for most of our current global-mean warmth. Not one. As the mass hysteria calling for an end to carbon dioxide production has accelerated, ethanol has arisen as the new messiah of radical environmentalism, promising to assuage our guilty enviro-consciences when we choose to starve more of the world’s poor.

POPSThere Is No Wealth But Life Being willing to say such things about capitalism does not mean that one has a special access to the Truth, but it also doesn’t mean that one is a mere ideologue, or that most dismissible of things, a communist. It merely requires honesty about what looks us right in the face. It requires intellectual conscience. The whole article is definitely worth a read.

POPSBearly Truthful When the polar bear population increases by 500% it hardly qualifies as being endangered. In fact, ask the people who have their arms torn off by these cuddly little fellows whether they are as nice as they are pictured by the eco-nazis.
