POPSCracking Art ; Shibboleth
Shibboleth (from Easton's Bible Dictionary): river, or an ear of corn. The tribes living on the east of Jordan, separated from their brethren on the west by the deep ravines and the rapid river, gradually came to adopt peculiar customs, and from mixing largely with the Moabites, Ishmaelites, and Ammonites to pronounce certain letters in such a manner as to distinguish them from the other tribes. Thus when the Ephraimites from the west invaded Gilead, and were defeated by the Gileadites under the leadership of Jephthah, and tried to escape by the "passages of the Jordan," the Gileadites seized the fords and would allow none to pass who could not pronounce "shibboleth" with a strong aspirate. This the fugitives were unable to do. They said "sibboleth," as the word was pronounced by the tribes on the west, and thus they were detected (Judg. 12:1-6). Forty-two thousand were thus detected, and "Without reprieve, adjudged to death, For want of well-pronouncing shibboleth."

POPSPierce: Irish Cannibal in Australia
"Soon he found different food, he found animals: a flock of sheep. He survived for some time stealing sheep and eating some of them, but then he was caught by the police. He confessed that he had stolen 250 sheep and he was sent back to prison. But on 16th november 1823 he escaped again, this time with a man called Thomas Cox. When the police captured him again, he was wearing Cox's clothes. He confessed that he had killed and eaten Cox, and he also confessed that he had eaten the other fugitives and carried parts of the bodies to eat them when he was hungry. "As we could expect, Pierce was sentenced to death on July 6th, 1824. He was hanged and somebody took his head because he thought that future generations should know about this terrible story. That head can be seen nowadays in a museum in the city of Philadelphia, United States. It's the head of a young Irish man who was sent to Australia for stealing six pairs of shoes and there he tasted human flesh ... and he enjoyed his exp

POPSWhat Phase Two Senate Intelligence Report Says About Saddam's Hospitality Postwar information supports prewar assessments and statements that Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was in Baghdad and that al Qaeda was present in northern Iraq. But now, even in a partisan report designed to attack the Bush administration's credibility, the Senate Intelligence Committee has admitted that Bush and his officials were right to argue that Saddam was harboring al Qaeda fugitives. Both prewar and postwar intelligence assessments confirm their view. And while the Senate Intelligence Committee got this issue right, it got many others wrong. The report is not even internally consistent and the committee simply ignored numerous pieces of information that got in the way of some of its conclusions. Iraq and al Qaeda did not have a cooperative relationship. ommittee ignored the best evidence-Iraqi intelligence documents discovered in postwar Iraq.

Still its a bummer to those fans who were arrested when they thought they would be having a great time. But...If you do the crime.............

POPSCorrie Ten Boom While in Ravensbruck Concentration Camp, the barracks were infested with lice. Corrie and her sister praised God for the lice, because the guards refused to enter their barracks for fear of getting infected. Can you imagine? That is truly seeing the silver lining.

POPSA MUST SEE MOVIE "MAXED OUT"
BRIEF SYNOPSIS: When Hurricane Katrina ravaged America's Gulf Coast, it laid bare an uncomfortable reality—America is not only far from the world's wealthiest nation; it is crumbling beneath a staggering burden of individual and government debt. Maxed Out takes us on a journey deep inside the American debt-style, where everything seems okay as long as the minimum monthly payment arrives on time. Sure, most of us may have that sinking feeling that something isn't quite right, but we're told not to worry. After all, there's always more credit! Maxed Out shows how the modern financial industry really works, explains the true definition of "preferred customer" and tells us why the poor are getting poorer and the rich getting richer. By turns hilarious and profoundly disturbing, Maxed Out paints a picture of a national nightmare which is all too real for most of us. Watch it on the thinkingblue blog http://thinkingblue.blogspot.com or http://www.thethinkingblue.com/MAXED_OUT.html

POPSCellphones & Privacy: Who Cares? From the article: ""Most people don't realize it, but they're carrying a tracking device in their pocket," said Kevin Bankston of the privacy advocacy group Electronic Frontier Foundation. "Cellphones can reveal very precise information about your location, and yet legal protections are very much up in the air."
