Half of overweight US adults are heart-healthy
Lexica
by Lexica  8-11-2008    1
We have this idea that fat=unhealthy, unhealthy=fat, thin=healthy, and healthy=thin. However, more and more research seems to indicate that this simply isn't true. It's not about your size or your shape, it's about your fitness. Can you do what you need to do on a daily basis with ease? Can you climb a flight of stairs or run a block for the bus without getting winded? Can you play tag with a couple of six-year-olds without passing out from overexertion? Can you carry your groceries home without needing to set them down several times? Get fit. Get strong. Get active. And tell anyone who still believes in "shaming the fatties into losing weight" to go jump in a lake.

Teeth Gritted
debbyski
by debbyski  5-24-2008    7
It hurts us so much in the rural areas. We have to drive everywhere. I drive about 32 miles a day to work alone. There is no way I can ride a bicycle that length of miles, and there is no good public transport here. Of course I could buy a motorcycle but that's only good for a small seasonal portion of the year. I have noticed that elderly people just aren't driving and the cost of groceries is just as hurtful.

Smartening-up pills needed
Socratoad
by Socratoad  5-14-2008    2
The great irony is that many of these dishes are so delicious that cooks might even prepare more than they need just so they can look forward to using up the extra later - think of Italian arancini or refried risotto balls with their delightfully crunchy outsides, and you get the idea. And you simply can't make fried rice without rice that's been cooked and cooled. advertisement Before giving up on taking leftovers seriously - and there are plenty of pressing environmental, economic and even moral reasons why we shouldn't - it's not so much about boring frugality as about food that tastes really good.

Robbing the Poor Again: phoney Labour Government
abailart
by abailart  4-20-2008    2
What sort of government, what sort of man, would increase tax on the poorest taxpayers to bale out the likes of banks suffering for their greed, the evil war in Iraq, and to give a tax reduction to his beloved middle class? Poor tax payers are hit massively by soaring prices of energy and the most basic foods. As usual, they believe that the poorest people can be ignored and exploited. Anyone who votes Labour ever again should be ashamed of themselves.

"THE HOMOSEXUAL LIFESTYLE"
DouglasDirk
by DouglasDirk  11-8-2007    2
If only many people understood the lives of GLBT people. We are no different from other people. Granted, there is good and bad in every person, straight or gay. Most evangelicals focus on the what they believe to be the bad aspects of the GLBT community. This focus is broad casted to society and then society takes that image and builds their conclusions of GLBT people, causing much misconceptions. If only they knew that the majority of us live normal, everyday lives. Many cannot be detected unless they told their sexual preference. Share the knowledge! Thanks to all of you for your intelligence and kind comments. Your support means so much to me and others who happen to be created gay! God Bless You All!

The Biggest Big-Government Conservative Candidate
merrie
by merrie  2-11-2008
Most of the leading Republicans running for president show some support for Bush's ideology, but no other candidate so completely embodies it. As governor of Arkansas, Huckabee dramatically increased state spending. During his two-term tenure, spending increased by more than 65 percent — at three times the rate of inflation. The number of government workers increased by 20 percent, and the state's debt services increased by nearly $1 billion. Huckabee financed his spending binge with higher taxes. Under his leadership, the average Arkansan's tax burden increased 47 percent, according to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, including increases in the state's gas, sales, income, and cigarette taxes. He raised taxes on everything from groceries to nursing home beds.

Apology will foster victim mentality: Opposition
tabsey
by tabsey  1-29-2008
The only better things Labour has to do with it's time is to clean up the mess left behind by the arrogant, the white supremacists and the "couldn't make it in the real world, so I took up politics" Liberals. Another example of the hypocrisy that we have worn for the last 10 years. The most positive thing about the election was the number of Liberals who lost seats because they didn't see themselves as answerable to their electorates.

Nurse Turns Home into Lower 9th Ward Health Clinic
urbanlife
by urbanlife  1-15-2008
After Katrina, the Charity Hospital, which for generations provided care to the poor and uninsured, did not re-open. There are plans for new hospitals, but no one expects a system as extensive as the one pre-Katrina. Neighborhood clinics like this one will be the future of health care in New Orleans.
