At times like this, it's good to embrace 'maybe'

I've clipped it before and i'll likely clip it again...cause at times as uncertain and unpredictable as these, embracing the concept of maybe seems utterly necessary.

China: new warriors at terracotta army site
cakebelly
by cakebelly  7-21-2009
more: Xu said the army officer was found lying on its stomach behind four chariots, and was largely intact compared with other newly-discovered warriors, according to Xinhua. “The original colors have faded after more than 2,000 years of decay, but a corner of the officer's robe suggested it was in colors other than the grey-ish clay,” he said. The latest excavation is the third in the site's largest pit — one of three open to the public — since 1974 when the army of terracotta warriors and horses was discovered by a peasant digging a well. Up to 5,000 more life-size figures are believed to still be buried in the pit and awaiting excavation. The Terracotta Army is one of the greatest archaeological finds of modern times, and was listed as a World Heritage Site in 1987.

What Does The Red Dot On The Forehead Mean ?
thisnamecantbetaken
by thisnamecantbetaken  10-12-2009    7
Worship of intellect is trusting your own intellect AND other's intellect, especially in the fields you do not have enough knowledge. Intellectual honesty and its worship have been corner stones of Hindu thought. 'Fully THINK (ponder) on what I said and then do as YOU deem fit'. Indian scriptures ask 'Drushtipootam nyasetpaadam, vastra pootam pibet jalam' - Look (think) before you leap (embark on any activity) and 'filter the water with a cloth before you drink'. Kathopanashad calls intellect as the charioteer. Body is a chariot, Indriyas (sense/connotative organs) are horses, mind is the reins to be used to control them, Atman (Self) is the rider within, and Vishay (objects of senses) are the tracks on which horses run. It asks us to overcome the ego, be selfless, yet asks to do all actions/ work/ worship with intellect.

It's snowing on Mars ...
balthazarus
by balthazarus  1-27-2009    2
Mars: the facts Mars is the fourth rock from the sun and our outer neighbor in the solar system. Mars has two moons, named Phobos and Deimos, Greek for "fear" and "panic". They were named after the horses that pulled the chariot of the Greek war god Ares. Mars is nearly half the size of Earth but around one tenth the mass. Mars and Earth have the same land surface area. The gravity on Mars is a third of that on Earth. The Martian year lasts 687 Earth days, and each Martian day is 40 minutes longer. The Martian atmosphere is 95% carbon dioxide, 2.7% nitrogen and 0.13% oxygen. Mars has no magnetic field, so the surface is constantly bombarded by radiation from the sun. What an adventure!

Macaques make democratic decisions
Mohir
by Mohir  8-22-2008
Whether or not the individual monkeys were successful in getting the rest of the group to follow them didn't seem to relate to their age, sex or status. "Even the children can get the group moving," says Cédric Sueur, a graduate student who worked on the study with Petit. The style of decision-making most frequently documented in the animal kingdom is dictatorial. In mountain gorillas, for example, the obedient tribe will follow the dominant male silverback. Horses, mongooses and wolves also follow despotic leaders. But theories are emerging which suggest that mammals who make democratic decisions may have an evolutionary edge because they can pool the experience of each group member.

New Mode Of Gene Regulation Discovered In Mammals
Silkweaver
by Silkweaver  7-13-2008
As research advances, the more it becomes clear, that gene regulation networks are actually complex computing machines. DNA is not a mere repository of information. What's more, the newly discovered mechanism is self referential, which adds another later of complexity to gene regulation processes.
