UPDATE: Darn, the site didn't clip as well as I was hoping. But it's still worth seeing. See main site for high-resolution photos . Fascinating installation by NYC photographer, Bill Sullivan, who frames the wonder that is human variety in everyday — yet unexpected — locations. (Love the guy with the BMX wheels in his hands.) False Flags you may know about?
righthand
by righthand  3-3-2008    1
Should we learn from what we now know of these incidents from our recent past and what we now know to be the truth, that we should not trust what our governments about what appears to be the situation. We only seem to have achieved to give away the rights that our citizen gained. For what? Increased security? What increased security and at what cost in money and loss of liberties? The security fascist who were the bottom of the labour chain, now control our every move. The lunatics are running the asylum! No wonder the citizens were never more afraid!

CIA involvement in murderous Operation Condor
righthand
by righthand  12-25-2007    4
The US ambassador to Paraguay, Robert White, feared that the US connection to Condor might be publicly revealed at a time when the assassination in the USA of Chilean former minister Orlando Letelier and his American assistant Ronni Moffitt was being investigated. White cabled that "it would seem advisable to review this arrangement to insure that its continuation is in US interest." This demonstrates that the US facilitated communications for Operation Condor, and has been called by J. Patrice McSherry (Long Island Univ.) "another piece of increasingly weighty evidence suggesting that U.S. military and intelligence officials supported and collaborated with Condor as a secret partner or sponsor." It has been argued that while the US was not a key member, it "provided organizational, intelligence, financial and technological assistance to the operation."

These new solar panels look and sound easy to install. No price info here but links are provided for more info, including dealers and possible financial incentives available. With electricity prices going ever higher and solar power technology (and hopefully prices) improving, I hope to be able to go solar soon.

Bush elevates Terrorists
BobbyRutan
by BobbyRutan  8-10-2007
Labeling terrorists as combatants leads to this paradox: while the deliberate killing of civilians is never permitted in war, it is legal to target a military installation or asset. The attack by Al Qaeda on the destroyer Cole in Yemen would be allowed, so too attacks on command and control centers like the Pentagon. For all these reasons, the more appropriate designation for terrorists is not “unlawful combatant” but criminal. The second problem is that it endangers our political traditions and our commitment to liberty, and further damages America’s legitimacy in the eyes of others. 50 years ago, at the height of the cold war, the Supreme Court reaffirmed the “deeply rooted and ancient opposition in this country to the extension of military control over civilians.” We need to recognize that terrorists, while dangerous, are more like modern-day pirates than warriors. They ought to be pursued, tried and convicted in the courts. At the extreme, yes, military force may be requir

Google solar panel project
ericskiff
by ericskiff  6-20-2007    2
Awesome to see how much energy google is producing using solar panels. you can even see the energy output just like you would a stock price in google finance. There's been quite a few developments in the past year which should help up the output on future installations like this if they come to market. It'd be great to see google get their net energy use down near 0.

The CFL's downside

Wow, think I will be a lot more careful with my CFL bulbs in the future. Just wonder what to do when the time comes to replace them. I definitely won't be putting them in a location where they are likely to be broken. This really makes the movement to outlaw incandescent bulbs in some countries look even more insane.

Shipbreakers of India and Bangladesh
dakotayii
by dakotayii  6-8-2008    2
ShipBreakers live in hovels built of scrap, with no showers, toilets or latrines. They have come from poor villages on the other side of India, lured by wages that start at $1.50 a day, to work at dangerous jobs, protected only by their scarves and sandals. They suffer broken ankles, severed fingers, smashed skulls, malarial fevers, chol-era, dysentery and tuberculosis. Some are burned and some are drowned. Nobody keeps track of how many die here from accidents and disease. Ship breaking is done from 7 AM to 11 PM (same crew) with two half hour breaks and an hour for lunch (supper is eaten after they go home at 11); 14 hours a day, 6-1/2 days a week (off half day Friday for Muslim observations).
