POPSHousing Covenants that endorse segregation I've seen these covenants turn up in title reports - they are shocking to read. "The covenants were not enacted by the government but were private contracts between homeowners. Owners who sold their house to a black family, for example, could be sued for damages by other homeowners in the neighborhood. Black home buyers could also be sued. In 1948, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Shelley vs. Kraemer that covenants were unenforceable."

Italy has not participated in the contest since 1997 because of the lack of interest from RAI and from the Italians themselves...picture 1958 - Domenico Modugno and Nel blu, dipinto di blu (Volare) - in the US, where it has become commonly known as Volare, and got two Grammy Awards. It is one of few Eurovision songs that has reached #1 at the US singles charts. At the 50th anniversary show "Congratulations" in 2005, it was elected the 2nd best Eurovision entry ever.

I am not yet fluent, however, learning key phrases helped me to communicate with Italians whom I found were very forgiving when I mangled their language. In fact, my attempts were often appreciated. POPSBest on the Net: Italy expose Income of All! Tax evasion is rife in Italy and both Silvio Berlusconi, the incoming PM, and the man he succeeds, Romano Prodi, pledged to tackle tax cheats. Prodi's finance ministry described the move as a bid to shine a light on people's murky tax returns. The tax minister, Vincenzo Visco, was quoted in Italy's Corriere della Sera saying: "It's all about transparency and democracy. I don't see the problem." But the timing of the release of the information has been viewed with scepticism. It was one of the last acts of Prodi's centre-left government before it leaves office next week, sparking accusations the move was motivated by spite. ... Guardian
