POPSTime for Jackson and Sharpton to Step Down This article really does a good job to put things in perspective. As a white person who doesn't like or listen to Imus, him getting fired for his poor comments seems to be taking the direction of the situation to a very hypocritical level. Read the entire article, as it's probably the deepest and most well thought out one I've read about this topic.

POPSPalin as President of the U.S. Senate? It's VP's job: But she has never even served in a legislature! How would she possibly know how to manage America's most difficult legislative body? Let alone how she would possibly step in, if needed, for the President, in a nation still at war. Take a deep look at McCain's judgment here. What a reckless, foolishly political nomination this is for the nation! And compare her credentials to Joe Biden's . . .

POPSWhy Should I Choose To Be Happy? "That leads me to the next way--fix your life. If you have things keeping you down--do everything you can to fight against it, to break free from it! If you don't like your friends, leave your friends. Find new friends. If you have an addiction--break it. If you hate the way things are going--make new goings. If you don't like your job, quit and find a new one. Even if you think you can't do anything--with the drive, anybody can do anything. There is this homeless man who sells bottled water down a busy street--I really love that guy. He posts posters up all along the street, saying great things like "Homeless, but not hopeless"--and when you look at him--you can just tell. He's a happy, striving guy, striving for better things. If he can do it--I'm sure you can."

POPSWhy The Media Should Apologize To Sarah She gave a really good speech. And why go beyond that? As we all know, speeches cannot be written by others and rehearsed for days. They are true windows to the soul. Unless they are delivered by Barack Obama, that is. In which case, as Palin said Wednesday, speeches are just a “cloud of rhetoric.”

POPSMichelle Obama serves soup, Nation misses the point
Conservatives are all over this photo. Not because the first lady is promoting volunteerism by actually doing rather than talking, but because someone in line has a cell phone. The assumptions are: 1-the homeless cannot possibly afford a cell phone, 2-this man is homeless yet owns an expensive cell phone with all the bells and whistles and is therefore cheating the ‘system’. This article answers these assumptions very well by debunking common misconceptions many of us have of the homeless and poor. Those conservatives we most often hear from (the ones yelling the loudest) have jobs (paying much more than minimum wage), a comfortable home to go to after their job, drive a well-maintained vehicle, enjoy all the trappings that money provides, and generally are out of touch with the majority of working class people. From the article: “you'd have to be a magician to stretch a minimum-wage job to cover housing, transportation, food, healthcare, childcare and other incidental expe

POPSWhat is a Man? A man has had liquor enough in his life that he can order a drink without sounding breathless, clueless, or obtuse. When he doesn't want to think, he orders bourbon or something on tap. A man welcomes the coming of age. It frees him. It allows him to assume the upper hand and teaches him when to step aside. He does not rely on rationalizations or explanations. A man gets the door. Without thinking. He stops traffic when he must. A man knows how to lose an afternoon. Drinking, playing Grand Theft Auto, driving aimlessly, shooting pool. He knows how to lose a month, also. He understands the basic mechanics of the planet. Or he can close one eye, look up at the sun, and tell you what time of day it is. Or where north is. He can tell you where you might find something to eat or where the fish run. He understands electricity or the internal-combustion engine, the mechanics of flight. A man is comfortable being alone. Loves being alone, actually. He sleeps.
