POPSSarah Palin Takes on The Washington Establishment But here's a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I'm not going to Washington to seek their good opinion -- I'm going to Washington to serve the people of this country." On energy policies: "Our opponents say, again and again, that drilling will not solve all of America's energy problems -- as if we all didn't know that already. But the fact that drilling won't solve every problem is no excuse to do nothing at all. Starting in January, in a McCain-Palin administration, we're going to lay more pipelines ... build more nuclear plants ... create jobs with clean coal ... and move forward on solar, wind, geothermal, and other alternative sources. We need American energy resources, brought to you by American ingenuity, and produced by American workers."

POPSTale of the Tape: Palin vs. Obama Energy: Palin- Believes energy independence is a matter of national security; For drilling in ANWR, which is in her state Obama- Says Americans should "get tune-ups" and "check tire pressure"; Says "we can't expect the world to be okay with" our use of heating and air conditioning Theme: Palin- Change and Clean Government Obama- Hope and Change; "Bringing Change from Outside Washington" What they've done to live that theme: Palin- Replaced entire Board of Agriculture and Conservation because of conflict of interest; Resigned from position of Ethics Commissioner of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission in order to expose corruption among members of own party Obama- Selected 36-year incumbent Senator as running mate Family Affairs: Palin- May have removed State Public Safety Commissioner as part of effort to protect sister in messy divorce and child custody battle Obama- Often says, "I am my brother's keeper"; Brother lives in a hut in

POPSWhy I Will Not Vote for John McCain
"I can verify that John has an infamous reputation for being a hot head. He has a quick and explosive temper that many have experienced first hand. Folks, quite honestly that is not the finger I want next to that red button." "It is also disappointing to see him take on and support Bush's war in Iraq, even stating we might be there for another 100 years. For me John represents the entrenched and bankrupt policies of Washington-as-usual. The past 7 years have proven to be disastrous for our country. And I believe John's views on war, foreign policy, economics, environment, health care, education, national infrastructure and other important areas are much the same as those of the Bush administration." "I'm disappointed to see John represent himself politically in ways that are not accurate. He is not a moderate Republican. On some issues he is a maverick. But his voting record is far to the right. I fear for his nominations to our Supreme Court, and the consequent continuing loss o

POPSGreen technology creating 'green collar' jobs I stand strongly behind my belief that if this country committed ourselves to becoming energy independent with the same determination that we committed to putting a man on the moon, that we could do it and we could create millions of new jobs in the process. It would be an enormous driver of economic growth and strengthen our leverage in the Middle East because we would no longer be reliant on their oil.

POPSPalin Invokes God to Justify Iraq, Pipelines. What a....Repukelican. ..no I won't say what I really think. There are women here I respect too much...But not Sarah, or Cindy McCain or Laura Bush--any woman who can cleave to men like that doesn't deserve MY respect.

POPSPalin's speech This is an interesting comment..still 58% of the people who took the CNN poll thought Palin was effective....We'll see.

POPSJapan's Booming Sex Niche: Elder Porn Any entrepreneurs here in the west, might take a lesson from the Japanese business world. Instead of paying our elderly their measly social security payments, perhaps we could offer them jobs in the porn industry. The money is great, and they can work mostly on their backs.

POPSMcCain and Michigan In its "Insiders Poll" this week, the National Journal asks 77 Republican luminaries (pollsters, lobbyists, strategists, and so on) which states McCain has the best chance of picking up. At the top of of the list is Michigan. A handful of Democrats, polled on the same question, put New Hampshire at the top of the list and Michigan second. The clip delves into the political dynamics at work in Michigan.

POPSThe Return of the Robber Barons Another deceit is the measure called “core inflation.” This measure of inflation excludes food and energy, two large components of the average family’s budget. Wall Street and corporations and, therefore, the media emphasize core inflation, because it holds down cost of living increases and interest rates. In the second quarter of this year, the Consumer Price Index (CPI), a more complete measure of inflation, increased at an annual rate of 5.2 per cent compared to 2.3 per cent for core inflation. An examination of how inflation is measured quickly reveals the games played to deceive the American people. Housing prices are not in the index. Instead, the rental rate of housing is used as a proxy for housing prices. More games are played with the goods and services whose prices comprise the weighted market basket used to estimate inflation. If beef prices rise, for example, the index shifts toward lower priced chicken.

POPSThe Price of Putin
when Russia defaulted, and the amount of cash leaving the country in the second week of August was the highest on record. Russia's central bank, which reported the $16.5 billion decline last week, still reckons to have $581 billion in reserves, money being stored away when the oil runs out and the gas flow starts to falter. This may come somewhat sooner than many think. Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin spoke after the Cabinet approved the draft federal budget for the next three years, which assumes that Russia's main oil blend, Urals, will sell for at least $95 a barrel. (Russian government's own budget estimates, oil is expected to drop to $90 in 2010 and $88 in 2011.) At current rates of extraction combined with rising national consumption, Russia's known oil reserves will start to run out in the 2020s, and a lack of investment in maintenance and development means the two main gas fields expected to maintain Russia's export income are falling ominously behind schedule.

POPSA $45T Clean Energy Revolution Oh yeah....this is huge! Bigger than the internet and telecommunications revolution...the energy revolution seems poised to be the defining innovation of this century. In addition to creating a much more stable source of energy and helping the environment, the opportunity for investment and new jobs makes this the most exciting opportunity i've ever seen.

POPSConfidence game - The science of Trustworthiness Researchers have discovered that surprisingly small factors - where we meet someone, whether their posture mimics ours, even the slope of their eyebrows or the thickness of their chin - can matter as much or more than what they say about themselves. We size up someone's trustworthiness within milliseconds of meeting them, and while we can revise our first impression, there are powerful psychological tendencies that often prevent us from doing so - tendencies that apply even more strongly if we've grown close.

POPSMcLiar, an Immoral Philanderer And it is my understanding that when McCain and Hensley filed for a marriage license he wasn't legally divorced from his wife. He illegally obtained a marriage license while married to another woman. Don't ya just love his "traditional family values"?

POPS"White Guilt" Politics of Obama Crowd Undermined and then morphed that into the Communist Party (Marxist-Leninist) which earned him an invitation to sip tea with Chinese stalinists in Beijing in 1977. The Chinese were the originators of the idea that the rural third world south was being exploited by the urban developed world north. Klonsky fondly reminisced about his authoritarian left activities here in November 2007 stopping only to "repent" for his sectarianism while celebrating that he is now back together with former SDS comrades in "one movement." Now Klonsky blogs for the Obama campaign website on education policy and "social justice teaching." How is it under that bus, Comrade Klonsky? Mike Klonsky, former Weather Underground leader Bill Ayers' longtime comrade-in-arms from their days in SDS to the Chicago School Wars they fought in the 80s and 90s alongside Barack Obama, and presto he's gone. http://globallabor.blogspot.com/2008/06/how-is-it-under-that-bus-comrade.html

POPSWhy more troops won't help Afghanistan The nature of the conflict has changed from regional to a nation-wide warlord/Taliban alliance fueled by a separate and huge opium-poppy economy. This is what the Soviets failed to defeat, despite massive infusions of blood and capital.

POPSPelosi's Poison Pill Plan on "Energy Independence" Less capital will flow into energy exploration and refinement, supply will be constrained, and prices will rise. Those causal linkages aren't matters of partisan debate; they're simple and incontrovertible matters of economics. Still, as much recognition as Pelosi deserves for championing illogical policies for their own sake, I suspect the inclusion of these punitive measures in her new "plan" serves a simpler purpose. Namely, to make whatever "comprehensive" bill might emerge so unattractive that it will lose the bipartisan support enjoyed by the singular matter of whether or not to permit offshore drilling.

POPSGermany's Small Town Power Solution They actually sell their excess power at a premium to the grid. Without the laws Germany has on the books, America does not have these laws, it would not work. Now it works because people realize, there are jobs and money to be had, plus energy independence and environmental protection. Daenemark is one of the Scandinavian Countries where this also is wide spread. Too bad, America is so far behind in laws and environmental protection.

POPSObama's Depressing Tax Plan He has opposed the Columbian Free Trade Agreement, even though it primarily removes tariffs on American exports to that country, with barriers to Columbian exports to America already almost all removed under the Andean Trade Preferences Act. In sharp contrast, McCain has promised tax cuts to promote economic growth and strengthen the U.S. dollar. The federal corporate tax rate today is 35 percent, and McCain suggests cutting it to 25 percent. This would mirror rates elsewhere: The average corporate tax rate in the European Union was slashed from 38 percent in 1996 to 24 percent by 2007. The rates in India and China are lower as well. American companies are not going to produce more jobs and higher wages with this crippling competitive disadvantage.
