POPSWhere Are Our Manners? Sophisticated technology doesn’t mean that good manners have to be a thing of the past. In fact, Post says she defines good manners using three simple, everyday principles: consideration, respect, and honesty. “Apply those to any situation and toward all the people involved—including yourself—and will make sense.”

POPSThe typewriter symbolized the golden age of writing "The golden age of the typewriter has passed, but its memory lives on. That memory exists in the great literature it helped produce, in everyday parlance such as “Carbon Copy” (CC) and “Carriage Return" (CR), as a storyline in detective fiction and films, but most of all it lives on in the “QWERTY” keyboard design, its great legacy to the technology that consigned the typewriter to history."

POPSNew Details On RNC's FEC Complaint Over Obama's Misbegotten Millions I'm delighted to see that McCain's new "gloves off" strategy involves informing people about Congressional Democrats' (including Barack Obama's) responsibility for the bad decision making at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac that helped lead us into the current financial crisis (despite years of warnings by McCain and other Congressional Republicans about the government-sponsored firms' irresponsible lending practices). Now what I'd like to see is John McCain challenging Barack Obama from tomorrow night's debate podium to finally release the contributor details of his more than $200 million in small-dollar donations, given the gross irregularities involving fictitious donors that have already been substantiated among these transactions.

POPSMusical training enhances integration of the senses This study shows that sensorimotor and auditory training induces cortical reorganization to a greater extent than does auditory training alone. It also shows that sensorimotor and auditory training cause more changes in the auditory cortex than auditory training alone. This phenomemon, called cross-modal plasticity, has been investigated only rarely. In 2003, the same group showed that professional trumput players have enhanced interactions between the auditory cortex and the regions of the somatosensory cortex devoted to the lip. The new study therefore provides another demonstration that the sensorimotor and auditory cortices are connected to each other.

POPSFish Gave Us The Finger The last bit. The reason other researchers previously missed them, they think, is because in their samples the fingers were hidden behind marks left by the fish’s scales. So fish, too, seem to have incipient fingers. A finding we give two thumbs up.

POPSRove criticizes McCain AND Obama ads I have seen a number of liberal sites and even clips here that would lead you to believe Rove only criticized McCain and didn't say a word about Obama's ads or personal attacks. It is funny how they will dismiss anything Rove says because he is eeeevil until he says something they want to hear.

POPSMcCain Is Not Cool Like Barack But on the other hand, Uncle Jeremiah and Billy the Bomber are definitely very "fly" Wondering No More Johan Goldberg Pfeiffer said. "It's extraordinary that someone who wants to be our president and our commander in chief doesn't know how to send an e-mail." The outrage comes from inside: McCain's severe war injuries prevent him from combing his hair, typing on a keyboard, or tying his shoes. In a similar vein I guess it's an outrage that the blind governor of New York David Patterson doesn't know how to drive a car. After all, transportation issues are pretty important. How dare he serve as governor. Some say, So what if he was handicapped? He could still learn how to send email. Sure, but why would he? Bill Clinton sent two emails during his entire presidency and often admitted he didn't know squat about the internet. http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=OTliMTNiZjg5ZDEwZWNiZDYwZWFjN2JlNjNjNjkxZmM=

POPS Keyboard Technology Developer's New Entry: SWYPE Kushler says he can type 55 words per minute on his product. Discount the developer's advantage: Real human beings should be able to motor along at about half that, we estimate. The development team is focused on Windows Mobile (smartphones) and also the tablet version of XP and Vista, and Surface. However, Kushler mentioned how great the iPhone hardware was for his method. While no deal with Apple is pending, I do agree with Kushler that his technology would improve the iPhone experience. The company may also develop Swype for other platforms such as Linux and Symbian. Challenges for the company: Selling the technology. For it to work best for users, it should be embedded at the operating system level.
