POPSA Study of Women Inventors, Part 1 The social appeal for women to become inventors at that time was best expressed when Scientific American tried to assure them “that there was nothing inherently unladylike about the process of invention. Like novel writing, it could be done in the parlor at home, and did not require traffic in the factory or marketplace.” Follow to Part 2

POPSMysterious people who appeared in the village of Woolpit in Suffolk, UK, in the 12th century. The children were brother and sister and they had green colored skin. Their appearance was normal in all other areas. They spoke an unrecognized language and refused to eat anything other than pitch from bean pods. Eventually their skin lost its green color. When they learned English they explained that they were from the ‘Land of St Martin’ which was a dark place because the sun never rose far above the horizon. They claimed that they were tending their father’s herd and followed a river of light when they heard the sounds of bells - finding themselves in Woolpit. Some of the more unusual theories proposed for the origin of the children are that they were Hollow Earth children, parallel dimension children, or Extraterrestrial children.

POPSToby Keith: Obama Talks, Acts and Carries Himself as a Caucasian So it seems that the idea of "acting white" isn't confined to blacks. midknightryder13 commented at Huffington Post: n the musical "My Fair Lady" (and for that matter 'Pygmalion', the play on which it is based) -- Henry Higgins laments "Why Can't the English Learn How to Speak." The point of the song (and for that matter the premise of the play) is that the way one carries oneself and speaks is indicative of one's social class. However, Toby Keith has apparently fallen in with the incorrect assumption that class divisions are solely a function of ethnicity. Such treacle. BO is carrying himself and acting as befits someone who has been educated at Harvard. Speaking 'proper English', carrying himself with bearing and dignity. That's not 'white' -- that's IVY LEAGUE! Gee, a HARVARD GRADUATE 'acting' like he's Ivy League. Go figure.

POPSMcCain Suggests His Wife Participate in Topless Contest Anything to get a vote. The tragedy is that given Sen. John McMad's history of interpersonal aggression, resorting to objectifying his wife in this manner to pander to veterans at the event is so plausible that any denials the campaign might make about him not knowing the prurient details of the contest seem doubtful.

POPSMicroCredit
Microcredit is the extension of small loans to people too poor to qualify for traditional bank loans. These very small loans allow the poor to develop their various businesses and trades. As a result people have the chance to bring themselves out of poverty. Microcredit goes directly to the people who need it and instills a sense of pride that can sometimes be lost with traditional charity handouts. When money is used for microcredit, it is not used once but over and over again. When a loan is repaid with interest, the money generated is given to a new borrower. In time this creates a sustainable institution, which is not reliant on continuous donations. The majority of microcredit borrowers are women because they have proven to be excellent at managing their businesses. Also, when a lady controls the finances the money she earns tends to go back into the home and to her children's education. Promoting credit as a human right. Helping poor families help themselves to overcome.

POPS97-Year-Old Woman Says Cat's Yowling Saved Her From Fire
Then she smelled smoke. "I knew I had to get out of the house," said George, seated Thursday on a sofa in her daughter's house, just down the block. George ran toward the street in the rain, and flagged down the third car she saw. "Thank God it was a lady," she said. "All I had on was bikini underwear and a tank top." Firefighters got Boo Boo out of the house safely and administered oxygen. For now, George and her heroic cat are staying with George's daughter. George said she plans to have the house repaired, though it's not clear how she will pay for the damage. She canceled her home insurance four years ago after paying 50 years of premiums. The Independence Fire Department, which believes lightning caused the fire, estimates the damage at $75,000 to the house and $40,000 to possessions. But George and her daughter were less concerned with the costs, and more thankful for George's survival — and for the cat's role. George told her daughter, "I'm going to get her
