POPSNPO | Little known outside Mexico, world's richest man pledges some of fortune to charity with reser
The richest man in the world is no longer American, but Mexican, a sign of the developing world's wealth -- and potentially foreshadowing a shift in philanthropy. With $53.5-billion, the Mexican telecommunications investor Carlos Slim Helu edged out Bill Gates as the top billionaire, says Forbes magazine. It also notes that Brazil, Russia, and Turkey experienced significant growth in the number of superwealthy. While America is still home to the largest number of billionaires (403), the growing personal assets in other places could lead to big giving, philanthropy experts told The Chronicle in a recent article. They predicted India, China, and Brazil could have a boom in splashy charitable donations in the near future. ___ SOURCE | http://tiny.cc/altasource995 ___ SEARCH | http://tiny.cc/altasearch920 ___ NPO | AFFINITIES PHILANTHROPY | My iWEB Blogs | http://tiny.cc/altacities172 ___ AMPLIFY PHILANTHROPY | http://tiny.cc/Philanthropy

POPSLimbaugh Still Pulling Things Out Of His Butt!
I saw this on the Dylan Ratigan show yesterday... He played the audio of Limbaugh telling his LOVE TO HATE audience that he was moving to Costa Rica if the Health Care Insurance Reform were to pass... Costa Rica has NATIONALIZED HEALTH CARE! I wonder how old Rush is going to lie himself out of this one! Costa Rica Offers Good-Quality Health Care Costa Rica has universal health care, one of the best health systems in Latin America. As always with nationalized health care, expect red tape and long waits, but the quality of Costa Rica's health care is excellent. Private health care is also available, very affordable, and high quality. Many doctors speak English and have received training in Europe, Canada, or the U.S. There are three large, private hospitals that most expatriates use: CIMA hospital in Escazú, Clinica Biblica in San José, and Clinica Católica in San José-Guadalupe. POPSHow to Expose Corruption
From the website of Transparency International comes this elegant definition: What is corruption? Corruption is the abuse of entrusted power for private gain. It hurts everyone whose life, livelihood or happiness depends on the integrity of people in a position of authority. Peter Eigen knows this. He worked in economic development for 25 years, mainly as a World Bank manager of programs in Africa and Latin America. Among his assignments, he served as director of the regional mission for Eastern Africa from 1988 to 1991. Stunned by the depth and pervasiveness -- and sheer destructiveness -- of the corruption he encountered, he formed the group Transparency International to take on some of the main players in deals with corrupt officials: multinational corporations. Eigen believes that the best way to root out corruption is to make it known. Thus, Transparency International works to raises awareness of corruption, and takes practical action to address it, including public hearing
