POPSInvisible People - All the lonely people I saw a tiny bit of this then my mind wandered to how its possible to overcome isolation through the internet for example there are loads of apps for the iphone/ipod touch that have location aware social networking which in a city area the possibility of making connections would be massive I presume. If we could make this type of technology available more widely say in libraries or even community iniatives would could bring more people together and help people from becoming isolated oh and the title's from the beatles song which illustrates the situation (Eleanor Rigby)

POPSThe Hollow Lives of the Happy <<<Who wouldn't question this apparently hollow form of American happiness? Aren't all of us late at night, when we're honest with ourselves, opposed to shallow happiness? Most likely we are, but isn't it possible that many of us fall into superficiality without knowing it? Aren't some of us so smitten with the American dream that we have become brainwashed into believing that our sole purpose on this earth is to be happy? Doesn't this unwitting affection for happiness over sadness lead us to a one-sided life, to bliss without discomfort, bright noon with no night? My sense is that most of us have been duped by the American craze for happiness. We might think that we're leading a truly honest existence, when we're really just behaving as predictably and artificially as robots, falling easily into well-worn "happy" behaviors, into the conventions of contentment.>>>

POPS6 Key Social Skills Obvious? Perhaps not - judging by how people often respond in social situations - where 'me' is the most important subject

POPSCry Out To Jesus Help for the hopeless... He'll meet you where you are... To everyone who's lost someone they love Long before it was their time You feel like the days you had were not enough when you said goodbye And to all of the people with burdens and pains Keeping you back from your life You believe that there's nothing and there is no one Who can make it right Chorus: There is hope for the helpless Rest for the weary Love for the broken heart There is grace and forgiveness Mercy and healing He'll meet you wherever you are Cry out to Jesus, Cry out to Jesus For the marriage that's struggling just to hang on They've lost all of their faith in love They've done all they can to make it right again Still it's not enough For the ones who can't break the addictions and chains You try to give up but you come back again Just remember that you're not alone in your shame And your suffering Chorus: When your lonely And it feels like the whole world is falling on you

POPS D-Day In Context Perhaps that's because it would draw parallels between those who stormed the coast of France in 1944 and those who are fighting now -- and winning -- a war against radical Islam. Unlike those who braved their way into Hitler's Fortress Europe, the young Americans fighting today's battles reap few accolades from the potentates of the press or the liberal "leadership" in Washington. A recent editorial warned about Iraq: "Don't look now, but the U.S.-backed government and army may be winning the war." And it took to task those who comprise "the 'this-war-is-lost' caucus." The victories over al-Qaida and the Shiite militias in Iraq, against the Taliban and Osama bin Laden's remnant in Afghanistan, have been won by U.S. soldiers, sailors, airmen, guardsmen and Marines -- and the new allies in these countries. Those who landed on the beaches of Normandy 64 years ago were American heroes. So are those who serve today.

POPSWhat I Want to Ask Mary Tillman I want to ask her what she thinks of a president who, armed with the facts, would lie over Pat’s dead body. I want to know if she believes George W. Bush belongs in prison. But I also want to ask Mary Tillman about the person her son was, and the person her son was becoming: the Pat Tillman moving against the war in Iraq; the Pat Tillman who was a voracious reader, turning his attention to critics of empire like Noam Chomsky; the Pat Tillman whose journal and personal effects were burned and destroyed immediately following his death. This is a Pat Tillman who deserves to be heard.

POPSThe Lonely Crowd
<<<By the 1940s, the other-directed character was beginning to dominate society. Today the triumph of this type of social personality is complete. If one applies the outer-direction criteria to everyday actors as portrayed in modern culture, for example, Death of a Salesman or How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, or the classic How to Win Friends and Influence People, the other-directed person is easy to identify. This defined the middle class that no longer had the material need to cling to past life standards to form a cohesive society. But since the other-directed could only identify themselves through references to others in their communities (and what they earned, owned, consumed, believed in) they inherently were restricted in their ability to know themselves. Riesman's book argues that although other-directed individuals are crucial for the smooth functioning of the modern organization, the value of autonomy is compromised. The Lonely Crowd also argues that so

POPSFinding Your HOT "Other Half" "One fraudster, who poses as an attractive blonde called Anna Ivanova, said: "The average salary in my city is £75 a month. The choice here is simple - either poverty or larceny. Now I earn £3,000 a month. People are fools if they want to find a wife on the internet. It is not real. I correspond with a whole division of Westerners - and they are all idiots. And I am quite successful in the business. I can wait to be noble and honest in my next life." She can wait to be noble and honest in her next life?? I don't think so baby. And guys? Hotties like this don't have to advertise for a man. Dream on.

POPSFive Years of Suicide Bombings in Iraq Never before has the Arab world witnessed a phenomenon of suicide-death on this scale. During Israel's occupation of Lebanon after 1982, one Hizbollah suicide-bombing a month was considered remarkable. During the Palestinian intifadas of the 1980s and 1990s, four per month was regarded as unprecedented. But suicide bombers in Iraq have been attacking at the average rate of two every three days since the 2003 Anglo-American invasion.

POPSLoneliness Breeds Belief in Supernatural Chats with older folk, the church was almost an excuse for having get-togethers And I think a lot of those who live away from families really miss the extended family - that has died in Australia.

POPSChurch Can Be A Lonely Place "For me, throwing myself into the religious machine meant starting to pay attention to being real and to paying attention to those who seem kind of disconnected in my spiritual community. Thankfully I have found a church family that is intent on keeping it real to the point that my religious bones get rattled on a fairly regular basis. I did not know how tight the grip of religion had on me until I stepped out and got into a place where being weak is embraced by the teachers and leaders at The Bridge and in everyone else. It is very freeing to be weak and not feel like I am stuck in the dug-out anymore. The whole team is in the dug-out with me. Let's start a revolution of honesty that just might lead to a reformation of church and community."

POPSSupernovas for Lonely Stars I like interpreting astronomy in terms of relationship advice. For instance this one means: Two people together can sometimes be much more destructive than they are alone. Especially if they are middle-aged burn-outs!
