Persimmons are a family favorite, and I guess we must just have dumb luck with ripening them - the problems people describe here with being unable to ripen them are all new to me. (For the record, the family persimmon-ripening method: Place persimmon stem-side down on the kitchen counter, not in direct sun. Leave it there. Pick up once or twice a day to check whether it's getting soft yet. *shrug* It's always worked for us - we've never needed any of the tricks people mention in this post's comments.)

According to the Center for Responsive Politics, deployed troops are putting their money where their mouth is: they've given four times as much money to Obama as McCain. "Any assumption that the military vote is overwhelmingly in favor of the Republican Party -- based on demographics alone -- is suspect, at the very least," said Donald S. Inbody, a retired Navy Captain who is on the political science faculty at Texas State University. This could result in a 1.2 to 1 advantage for Obama in military communities, according to Inbody, especially if the campaign "isn't tone deaf" to the inroads that are possible.

POPSBiden allows Palin to look good The strategy was exactly right. In essense it was a strategy that said Palin doesn't matter. The voters have seen, and she will show, what kind of successor she will make. Attacking her is just hitting a tar baby. The real target was McCain and using Biden to attack him was masterful. They have, after all, known each other and been members together in the most exclusive club in the world for a long time. The strategy worked well because she didn't really score hits on Obama and McCain can't really attack Biden without looking petty. The best moment was when she slipped and said "John McCain must leave....lead..."
