POPS$700 Billion Bailout of Wall Street
"I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. . . . corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed. I feel at this moment more anxiety for the safety of my country than ever before, even in the midst of war. God grant that my suspicions may prove groundless." -- U.S. President Abraham Lincoln, Nov. 21, 1864 - (letter to Col. William F. Elkins) Ref: The Lincoln Encyclopedia, Archer H. Shaw (Macmillan, 1950, NY) Someone predicted this economic collapse A year ago and worked hard to do something about it. POPSThe Tyranny of Paramilitary Police Raids and SWAT Teams Great article and podcast from CATO on police extremism (terrorism) that is akin to fascism and contrary to the principles of "proportionate" responses to evidence of crimes, etc. The recent example of a Mayor in Maryland being held at military-style gun point (with his wife and mother-in-law) , after they shot his dogs is what sparked this issue more. These "over the top" police tactics must be stopped. Police increasingly are "swarming", using their paranoid principle of "overwhelming force", which is overwhelmingly irrational, yet is supported by politicians who want to appear "tough on crime", while being ridiculous. They mention in the short podcast that what you see on TV is not representative of what really happens commonly in these SWAT and other raids.

POPSAll Hail Our Glorious Leader! Note: The official Obama campaign website is doing this. They're screaming about McCain running the sleaziest campaign ever, while they're actively trying to stifle dissent against Obama. Not refuting it; not ridiculing it; not even engaging with it. Trying to keep it from being said at all. If this is like last time, they won't even send a campaign rep to the show, which is just down the street from their HQ. No, just send in the phone zombies. And they're getting away with this. I guess because if you have a problem with it, you're a racist? I've got my Amazon Kindle right here and I just downloaded Freddoso's book. While I still can.

POPSThe Creature From Jekyll Island (Scary Stuff)
In the wake of the Lehman Brothers, bankruptcy, and the long queue of other banks and mortgage companies ready to follow this, old bank, in a freefall slide down the ole' crapper. This is an interesting but frightening piece. The only question I have upon listening, IS... What the hell can we do about it? G. Griffin says, "slay the creature" (federal reserve sys.) in Congress. With an informed electorate this can happen... We must all do our part to bring about change. Clipmarks is one way to GET THE WORD OUT. Education and information is really the answer. If we were all informed, the political nonsense we see upon our BOOB-TUBES would never penetrate the USA psyche. We can't keep going downhill like this. The bottom is harder than ROCK. Please download the mp3 and pass it around. If this enlightens just one person, I have done my bit to help thwart such a dire outcome for our nation and world. If the mp3 is a little much, view youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWKlz2Z4Nlo

POPSIntelligence and Empathy He stresses that the human mind does not qualify as a completely ‘General Intelligence’ but lies somewhere on the spectrum between AGI on one end and ‘Narrow AI’ on the other. This is one of several reasons why he does not expect AGI to be achieved by mimicking the workings of the human brain. He describes how our brains fool us into believing that we understand our actions and decisions when we don’t. And why modeling an AI too closely on the human brain might make it too, vulnerable to false notions. He also says, ‘I think virtual worlds are going to be absolutely critical to the development of Artificial General Intelligence.’ As well as ‘Right now connecting AI’s to virtual worlds is probably the best way to get an AI to have a general human-like embodied experience.’

POPSBob Barr: The "Change" of the Republican Party Powerful. The neo-republican party exposed from a former republican who pushed to impeach Clinton. Barr's credibility from being a very influential republican Congressman, and earlier experience in the CIA, make his arguments formidable. During the last 8 years republicans have left their own platform, especially regarding limited government and individual liberty which they once championed. Listen on REAL audio beginning at 1:00:00 mark. Despite much talk of democracy the Libertarian candidate is being excluded from debates from the two-party tyranny. Ron Paul and Bob Barr are just two effective witnesses to the "change" of the republican party and the great danger to freedom it poses. .

POPSScott Ritter Rips Obama and McCain on War Policy Powerful refutation of McCain and Obama's assessment of Iran and the "war on terrorism" in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the way it is being portrayed to the public. Democrats in particular should see that Obama and McCain's policies (now) are very close, and not based upon credible threats, much like Iraq. (Ritter is a republican and former Marine and the former UN weapons inspector in Iraq.) If you listen on REAL video or audio his interview begins at the 42:10 mark. This same podcast also includes excerpts from Ron Paul's counter-convention.

POPSOpen Source Learning - Richard Baraniuk He talks about the way education will be more interactive, and reciprocal. Some of what he was saying reminded me of the way clipmarks, or wikki work. "Can you imagine there was a time when the books in a library didn't talk to each other?" Marvin Minsky The video is about 13min and 64 MB
