In the early 1990’s, the people of Nigeria began to protest. Shell made payments and provided arms to security forces that they knew to be abusive to local communities. The military government violently repressed the demonstrations and arrested and bribed witnesses. Nine leaders of the demonstrations were murdered, including the aforementioned well-known activist and writer, Ken Saro-Wiwa.

Given Liddy's record, it's hard to see why McCain would touch him with a 10-foot pole. On the contrary, he should be returning his donations and shunning his show. Yet the senator shows no qualms about associating with Liddy -- or celebrating his service to their common cause. How does McCain explain his howling hypocrisy on the subject? He doesn't. I made repeated inquiries to his campaign aides, which they refused to acknowledge, much less answer. On this topic, the pilot of the Straight Talk Express would rather stay parked in the garage. That's an odd policy for someone who is so forthright about his rival's responsibility. McCain thinks Obama should apologize for associating with a criminal extremist. To which Obama might reply: After you.

POPSMurdered young man of Todmorden No matter who or what created the character of this young Englishman, he did not deserve to be murdered on the streets of Todmorden. Close scrutiny of this boy's history shows the dire pits into which the Social Services in Britain have fallen. The cases of mal-management are legend, but the this over paid bureaucratic self opinionated shower of professionals keep making basic errors. Too much eduction and no involvement of reality. They go to work five morning a week, make occasional house call, collect their expense claims, and at four-thirty go to the pub to tell their fellow workers what good eggs they are. They are cracked and need overhauling with a yard brush. Had they done their job correctly, this young man would not have thought there was a need for him to carry and use a knife on some other young person. Social Service employees are so much like their worthless employers, the politician, that it is impossible to tell them apart.

POPSIndian "Honor" Killing At the risk of sounding like Bones, I understand, anthropologically, why it was forbidden in the past for people of a village to marry, and it even may be a valid action now ( I live in a town of less than 500 people, and trust me, almost everyone is related), but the murder was, I think, wrong. It does not leave permanent physical damage such as pressing burning hot coals on a person's body. I really hope those citizens of Connecticut, who decided to reelect this traitorous, murderous bastard, feels quite satisfied with themselves. Is anyone asking the candidates about what they are going to do about the US' slow but steady slide into fascism? Or about limiting presidential power? Or about banning torture? Or about the return of Habeus Corpus? Or about extraordinary renditions and secret prisons? Or about preemptive aggression? Or about making your war criminals pay for their crimes? Hmm? Anyone? No. No. Let's just keep it entertaining, low key and unsubstantial. Let's talk about lipstick! Yeah! Blacks vs whites, Democrats vs Republicans, pro-life vs pro-choice, Christians vs atheists blah blah blah... "Divide and conquer!". The power elite working behind the scenes have that pat down and the US citizenry is blissfully (perhaps willingly) oblivious... *shaking my head in disbelief* Oops! No time to comment any more!
