POPSThe Daily Show vs. Blovation Fest 2008! I've been watching the Daily Show since its first episode, and I started taking it serriously when Jon upped the IQ quotient by replacing Craig Killborne. Now the show pretty much only does indie film makers, political wonks, and third world presidents. How cool is that? The only people who do more serious interviews are Charlie Rose and Bill Moyers, and actually, Bill Moyers described Jon as "The Mark Twain of our time." But why did I clip? for the "Blovation Fest" Quote, which by the way, will be the festival of avant garde noise-punk music I attempt to put on this fall. ;)

POPSRottenNeighbor.com Lets You Rat Out the Neighbors The site founded last July is part online therapy, part trashy paperback novel. It singles out neighbors for offenses ranging from shoddy lawn upkeep ("They have garbage all through their yard") to alleged violence ("He has tried to run us down with his push lawnmower").

POPSAsimov's 30 Laws of Robotics Par 1 (#4-11) If you know Asimov's first Three Laws of Robotics then you either are a scifi fan or a Will Smith Super-Fan (it was a better than average movie and for Will a better than average Will Smith movie which says a lot as I am NOT a Will Smith Super-Fan, He just makes smart movies.) But if you are in the dark about the first 3 laws of robotics here they are: 1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. 2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law. 3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Laws. OK Now that we are all on the same web page, enjoy the wonderful witticisms...

POPSUrban environment not so good for birds 'There are many different strategies that birds deploy to counter the noise of the urban environment. These strategies could lead to us seeing a completely separate urban species of bird which can't breed with its country cousin.'

POPSInt'l Whaling Comm. Fails, Threats to Whales Mount, Whaling Nations Dig In A new report on climate change suggested dire consequences for the world’s whales if immediate steps aren’t taken to mitigate the effects of changes in sea temperature, freshening of seawater from melting ice and increased rainfall, sea level rise, loss of polar habitats, and the decline of krill populations. Meanwhile, the IWC’s Scientific Committee continued its important work on assessments of threats to whales from ship strikes, fisheries entanglements, and underwater noise generated by human technology, including energy company exploration, as well as from emerging and recurring diseases.
