Google Chrome is here
wildcat
by wildcat  9-1-2008    7
This is just the beginning -- Google Chrome is far from done. We're releasing this beta for Windows to start the broader discussion and hear from you as quickly as possible. We're hard at work building versions for Mac and Linux too, and will continue to make it even faster and more robust. We owe a great debt to many open source projects, and we're committed to continuing on their path. We've used components from Apple's WebKit and Mozilla's Firefox, among others -- and in that spirit, we are making all of our code open source as well. We hope to collaborate with the entire community to help drive the web forward.

Moodle is a course management system (CMS) - a free, Open Source software package designed using sound pedagogical principles, to help educators create effective online learning communities. You can download and use it on any computer you have handy (including webhosts), yet it can scale from a single-teacher site to a University with 200,000 students. This site itself is created using Moodle, so check out the Moodle Demonstration Courses or read the latest Moodle Buzz.

How Tenet Betrayed the CIA on WMD in Iraq
arifsali
by arifsali  8-9-2008    2
Habbush explained to the British official that Saddam tried to maintain the impression that he did have such weapons in order to impress Iran. Suskind writes that the head of MI6, Richard Dearlove, flew to Washington to present details of the Habbush report to Tenet, who then briefed National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice. Soon after that, the CIA informed the British that the Bush administration was not interested in keeping the Habbush channel open, according to Suskind’s account.

Giants and Jets Fans Join Uproar Over Stadium's Nazi Ties
merrie

The company insured the Auschwitz death camp and had a chief executive serving in Hitler's cabinet. The company is on the short list of those vying to slap their name on the Meadowlands stadium in New Jersey via a lucrative sponsorship deal. The "NMSC has undertaken a rigorous due diligence effort," said spokeswoman Alice McGillion. "NMSC management and the teams' owners became sensitive to Allianz's history." After weeks of vetting the company, ownership is convinced that Allianz has done enough to correct its past, said a source close to the negotiations. Rabbi Jay Rosenbaum, secretary general of the North American Board of Rabbis, agreed that although survivors' sensibilities are understandable, a naming deal is legit. "I have found Allianz to be receptive, to be sensitive and a friend of the Jewish people today," he said. "We need not live in the past."

Today's Topic: What's Weird in the Wikis
revenantdm
by revenantdm  8-2-2008
Another interesting Blog Site I found while perusing the Net.. The "Paul Is Dead" rumors go all the way back to the latter 60's and for a while was a huge phenomenon focusing around the "demise" of the left-handed Beetle. Some of the clues and hints that the Beetle's were supposedly sending in their album art and song lyrics are still quoted today...

Scientists Develop New Computational Method To Investigate Origin Of Life
Mohir
by Mohir  9-3-2008
"Retroelements are an ancient and highly diverse class of proteins; therefore, they provide a rigorous benchmark for us to test our approach. We are happy with the results we derived, even though our method is in an early stage," said Patterson. The team plans to make the algorithms that they used in their method available to others as open-source software that is freely available on the Web. Scientists map out the evolutionary histories of organisms by comparing their genetic and/or protein sequences. Those organisms that are closely related and share a recent common ancestor have greater degrees of similarity among their sequences.

Why I Love Clipmarks
egoldstein
by egoldstein  8-9-2008    9
So, i didn't write this, I read it. It was posted by Clipmarks user onlinedesign in the "Why I Use Clipmarks" section of her profile. You can click the source link to visit her page. I wanted to clip this because it really moved me. It is exactly what i hope Clipmarks can provide for people. Knowing that we have accomplished this for some people gives me great pride and satisfaction. I could never adequately convey how impressed, inspired and grateful i am for the collective contributions of the people who share the content, thoughts, opinion, passion and perspective that gets mixed together here on clipmarks.com. I think it's truly remarkable.

Last fall, Kapor was called upon to help Senator Barack Obama define his technology positions. Kapor suggested that Obama, if elected president, should install a federal chief technology officer. Conservatives grumbled at the idea of another layer of bureaucracy, but Kapor and others in Silicon Valley say the government needs cohesive technology practices and policies.
