Pandas an Evolutionary Mistake?
bloowell
by bloowell  8-7-2008
Pandas have been ridiculed for their decidedly non-bearlike vegetarian diets, their apparent lack of interest in—and aptitude for—sex, their tendency to spend the majority of their time sitting, eating, scratching (video), and defecating (about 40 times per day)—even for being, shall we say, plump.

Earthquake Creates New Tourist Spot in China
Rebecca Ruiz
by Rebecca Ruiz  6-27-2008
Yesterday I clipped about visiting man-made disasters and today I came across this story about Chinese officials considering how to convert one of 34 'quake lakes' into a tourist destination. There are no specific details yet, but the idea is to draw visitors to a lake in Beichuan country, which was newly formed by earthquake-related flooding.

Kung Fu Panda
bignosemousie
by bignosemousie  6-7-2008    13
There is much to like about this movie. The story is fun, the animation is good, the characters are lovable. What I really liked about this movie was the lack of profanity, name calling, sexual innuendos, and gross humor. It is really hard to find a new movie for kids that doesn't use the word stupid. It might be in there, but I don't remember hearing it, and I usually cringe at every instance. I do not want my daughter to use derogatory language (sweet words that edify!) and it is difficult to find movies or tv that doesn't drip with it. This is a fun, heart-warming story with a lot of kung fu. It got one of the best ratings at Kids-in-Mind, too. (1, 3, 1)

Gizmo's Top Picks Of The Best Tech Resources And Utilities
merrie
by merrie  5-23-2008    1
Zero-cost, three-step procedure if your PC might have become infected as the result of installing a program you downloaded. (a) First, upload the installation file of the program you installed to Jotti.org for a free scan. Jotti will then run it through more than a dozen malware scanners and let you know if there is a problem. If Jotti determines that your file is clean, it doesn't mean that there is no infection. It simply means that it's unlikely there is an infection, and that folks, is a very comforting finding. (b) Download and run the free Panda Rootkit detector . Again, a clean scan is not a 100% guarantee of no infection, but should add greatly to your confidence. Panda doesn't run on Vista, so Vista users should use the BlackLight anti-rootkit scanner instead. (c) Finally, download HijackThis from this page , and follow the instructions on the same page which tell you how to create a log that you can paste to web forums.

Pixels Go Mad - The Celebration Of Pixel Art
alanocu
by alanocu  5-5-2008    6
Pixel art lives both in and beyond computer screen. Artists design pixel art posters, magazine covers, album covers, desktop wallpapers, paintings, “pixelish” video ads and even pixelated tattoos. And there is a good reason behind it: in times when popular design solutions strive for real-life-look or perfection pixel art offers a distinctive and creative artistic approach which is extremely expressive. In fact, pixel art can be impressive as well. This post attempts to prove just that.
