GOP Fights For Expedited Delivery Of Ballots To Military
merrie
by merrie  7-28-2008    6
In 2000 military ballots were targeted for challenge in the famous Florida recount , and only 48% of the overseas members of the military who requested absentee ballots for the 2006 election had their ballots counted, according to the U.S. Election Assistance Commission. Conservatives believe that members of Congress should fight as hard for the right of our military to vote as our military has fought to allow Iraq to have a constitutional democracy. Sens. Wayne Allard (R-Colo.) and John Cornyn (R-Texas), along with Reps. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) and Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) are engaging in legislative combat for the rights of our military to vote in the 2008 election.

Penny Postcards
revenantdm
by revenantdm  7-25-2008    1
Tired of E-Cards??? Want to try something different for once? I found this site looking for a card for a dear friend's birthday the other day. I had to come back today to share it with all of you. It is fresh and funny and anything over a hundred years old that they can get their paws on you can find. Tagged and categorized, I do not think you can go wrong... and what was naughty 100+ years ago would not raise an eyebrow today... Oh, and monkeys are VERY BIG here! Fair warning.

Why Canada is the best haven from climate change
Socratoad
by Socratoad  7-4-2008    5
As might be expected, developed nations score best. Canada is top, followed by Ireland, Norway, Denmark and Sweden. The United Kingdom is in 12th position, just behind the US. The surprise in the top 20 is Uruguay, which is listed ninth, and the only well-placed nation not to be in the club of countries which are rich, or Western (and usually both).

Anne Frank Postcard Found
maquser
by maquser  4-24-2008
Such a sad story of this poor girl, but it is amazing how her history has lived on. I hope her life story will remind people of the horrors of fascism and our need to be ever vigilant of tyrants in any land, even from Texas.

Send your lawmakers a Valentine to tell them you are sick to death with credit card rip-offs. It's time, NO IT'S LONG OVERDUE, to kiss Goodbye, the loan shark industries and their easy LEGAL inflatable credit gimmicks! -- LOAN SHARK n. One who lends money at exorbitant interest rates, especially one financed and supported by an organized CRIME/LOBBY network. HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!

Postcard from South Carolina
mickfinn
by mickfinn  1-18-2008    2
Mike Huckabee is not the only one pandering to them. Bob Jones III himself has endorsed Mitt Romney, while Fred Thompson - remember him? - has been pandering away here for most of the past fortnight. He has justified ignoring New Hampshire and Michigan by pointing out how he has kept his limbs warms in the South while "they're up there fighting blizzards", adding: "Now, who's the most qualified to be president, with judgment like that?" Thompson thinks he is going to pull off a little miracle by winning here, not least because it is his turn after Huckabee in Iowa, John McCain in New Hampshire and Romney in Michigan. I was pondering the nature of mircales in a post Bob Jones visit sort-of-way over a large drink when the barman pointed out that it was snowing here, for the first time in five years (or "ten years", as he said later). Maybe Thompson should have kept his mouth shut about the blizzards. South Carolina's miracle quota may just have been used up. (Times Online)

I see parallels to Guantanamo too. Are we making or breaking criminals? Are we making or breaking terrorists? I don't think unjust treatment or cruel heavy-handedness is doing us any favours. Take away dignity and you have hate.
