"The Artist in Chief" and "Navigating the Art of Change”
merrie
by merrie  10-29-2009    1
To borrow a line from the Artist in Chief, I’m “fired up and ready to go.” Am I starting to sound like an advocate? Well, that seems to be a touchy subject. Some quote-unquote “journalists” have recently accused this agency of losing its independence and becoming a propaganda machine. While I want to state in no uncertain terms that the NEA is not a political agency and that when art becomes propaganda I lose all interest in it, I also want everyone to know that the days of a defensive NEA are over. We have a plan and we are going to, quote, “advocate” for it. Remember, please, that the NEA is an unusual agency within the federal government. We have always been considered the champions of the arts and artists in the public sector. In a sense, we do “advocate” for them in a way that the IRS doesn’t advocate for taxes or the FCC for bandwidth. We promote the arts. Iran Urges Assassinations Worldwide
merrie
by merrie  1-9-2009    1
In the editorial, Shariatmadari recounted a story from a 13 year old teenager who had gone to the front lines during the Iran-Iraq war with the permission of the mullahs’ current Supreme Leader, Ali Khamanei, and was later killed. Shariatmadari compared him and other teenagers who were sent to mine fields by the regime, to “Ghassem,” a young man who fought alongside the revered Shiite Imam Hussein in 680 and died. Today, this war is in Gaza. As the Imam used to say, with the revitalization of true Islam of Prophet Muhammad, the Great Satan roared and issued a call to all the other big and small devils. … Now that the war in Gaza is the point of conflict for all of Islam against all infidels, why should the act of confronting the Zionists only be limited to the borders of occupied Palestine? Are the people of Gaza not representing the entire Muslim world in their fight with the Zionists?

The Fall of Great Cities: America's Fastest-Dying Cities
urbanlife
by urbanlife  8-21-2008
The former manufacturing backbone of the U.S. is in rougher shape than ever, still searching for some way to replace its long-stilled smokestacks. Where's it worst? Ohio has 4 of the 10 cities and Michigan has 2 cities making the ranking. So far this decade, 115,000 people have left Cleveland. Smaller changes in other regions can be just as painful: People are leaving in the thousands and they are not being replaced by either new babies or new immigrants. These cities face fleeing populations, painful waves of unemployment and barely growing economies... And they face even bleaker futures. Once great centers of business and industry, these cities now are shells of their former selves. They will have to re-shape their image & think outside of the box in order to try to attract future residents and businesses. The top 5 fastest dying American cities: 1. Canton, Ohio 2. Youngstown, Ohio 3. Flint, Mich. 4. Scranton, Pa. 5. Dayton, Ohio

Housing Crunch √ Food Crisis √
sahara
by sahara  5-6-2008    3
Peter Schiff was LAUGHED AT in 2006 when he tried to explain that we would soon face an upcoming mortgage crisis and the reasons for it, then he was scoffed at when he warned of the credit crunch and the food crisis, now he is called a "prophet" by some. Oh, and he is called the economic advisor to the Ron Paul presidential campaign! What an honest, intelligent economist. Great man to have on your team!

Comprehensive Economic Revitalization Plan
sahara
by sahara  4-14-2008    1
Here are a few of the plan's basics: Eliminate Taxes on Social Security Benefits. That money belongs to seniors, not the government. They paid into the system for a lifetime, and they should be free to spend every penny as they see fit. * Pass H.R. 192 to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to repeal the 1993 increase in taxes on Social Security benefits. # Eliminate Taxes on Tips. The single parents and working students who earn their income chiefly through tips deserve to keep all of their money. This tax on "estimated income" is unfair and should be ended. * Pass H.R. 3664 to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide that tips shall not be subject to income or employment taxes. Reduce Overseas Military Commitments. Our bases and troops should be on our soil. * It's time to stop subsidizing our trading partners in Europe, Japan and South Korea.
