POPSHot Springs National Park Trails Mar 18 2010 It is a glorious sunny morning, perfect for a hike in the park. I traveled up fountain street to the Hot Springs Mountain Road, as I passed the main entrance a lovely little squirrel was looking at me from a branch. It climbed down as I was getting ready to head to the Floral Trail and sat looking at me. I was surprised as it grabbed some grass and began eating it, I had never seen one eating anything other than nuts. I stood still, it crossed in front of me and dug up a nut continuing with breakfast. Learning something new it the best part of adventures in the park.

POPSHot Springs National Park Trails Mar 15 2010 The sky was bright as I headed into the park, waiting for the sun to crest the tops of the highest trees. Although light was beginning to spread out on the ground as the sun shone between the trees, it was still twilight up in the highest branches. On the Tufa Terrace five different squirrels were foraging for nuts hidden in the leaves. On several occasions there were disagreements over area rights for nut hunting. While chaos ensued below a single Squirrel sat high in a tree enjoying a breakfast feast. It was perfect start to my morning in the park.

POPSHot Spings National Park Trails MAR 10 2010 I thought today would be about fog again, the sky was dark and clouds sat low in the trees in the park when I awoke. I was out the door in less that an hour and into the park ready to capture the foggy forest. In the gray light I saw a lovely female Cardinal on the Tufa Terrace, she was grabbing berries in a tree. As I moved away I could hear her lovely song drifting through the park as I began my hike. To get up to the fog line I hiked up the Peak trail in record speed, but discovered the fog had lifted when I arrived.

POPSFake Nostalgia For A Pre-Therapy Past So many times here on CM, I see a longing for the "good old days". Some of them weren't so great. Like racism, sexism, and homophobia. I came from an age that you were expected to pull yourself up with your bootstraps. Problem is some folks didn't have any boots. While the right would like us to return to those times, and I have many happy memories from my childhood, I say we are progressing more positively as a society.

POPSTheater Of The Absurd - If Only We Could Laugh At Ourselves.
If people could laugh at themselves more they wouldn't have the inclination to hate. We’re all in this together but for some reason this thought seems dead in many minds. Don't we want the same things? To love and be loved, be respected as feeling human beings, not to be judged harshly by our differences in culture, economic status, belief system, race, gender, education, body size or our age. But for some reason this human characteristic of ‘we’re all in this together’ gets put on the back-burner for many. It's just remarkably too easy to hate those deemed different. And, it gives a scapegoat for the why 'we don't feel so good about ourselves'. If a group of people with opposing opinions sat in a room and watched some funny, both sides of the spectrum, humor and could laugh freely. I believe they would emerge from that room with less hostility and hate. (I know, I’m a dreamer.) BTW, John Wagner’s creation, Maxine, makes me laugh; I hope she, can also give you a haha or two.
