Beautiful and immortal advice. A MUST read!
fudzzz
by fudzzz  5-25-2007    12
Like the guy on the webpage this is linked to, I also found this letter among my dad's printed emails to me while I was away in university in another country. My dad has long departed since then, but every time I read these words Lincoln wrote to his son's teacher, they bring a tear to my eyes. Beautiful and sincere advice for anyone to follow.

Colors of the Night Sky
alanocu
by alanocu  5-12-2008    10
The last photo is a panorama - scroll far over to the right to see the entire image (or clicking will take you to the original). The second to last photo is called Emerald Tornado. "The blood moon is also known as the “Hunter’s Moon” or “Sanguine Moon.” While folklore warns that a blood moon is a sign of bad times, the red star of night is anything but. The name “Hunter’s Moon” originates from the fact that this moon cast a brilliant light, allowing hunters to continue to seek prey even at nighttime" "No matter how much fact stands behind blood moons, some people still continue to think of them as harbingers of doom (but they are really quite the opposite!)"

A writer is a person who cares about words.
mihla

When I was struggling as a freelance writer, this quote was my mantra. Often when I told people I was a writer, their response was, "What have you written?" Later, when I was conducting memoir writing and personal history, I used the quote again to convince my students they were writers.

The Power Of Love
debbyski
by debbyski  1-3-2008    17
One morning, as they marched out to lay railroad ties in the frozen ground miles from the camp, the accompanying guards kept shouting and driving them with the butts of their rifles. Anyone with sore feet supported himself on his neighbour’s arm. The man next to Frankl, hiding his mouth behind his upturned collar, whispered,”If our wives could see us now! I hope they are better off in their camps and don’t know what is happening to us. Frankl writes,”That brought thoughts of my own wife to mind. And as we stumbled on for miles, slipping on icy spots, supporting each other time and again, dragging one another up and onward, nothing was said, but we both knew: each of us was thinking of his wife. Occasionally I looked at the sky, where the stars were fading and the pink light of the morning was beginning to spread behind a dark bank of clouds. But my mind clung to my wife’s image, imagining it with an uncanny acuteness."

Sex Is Good For You
debbyski
by debbyski  7-22-2008    11
"When people feel deeply close while merely holding hands, they are having sex. When people display caring for each other through hugs, caresses, and kissing, they are also having sex. When connecting people in a crowded room wink at each other in their own secret way, they are communicating sex to each other; such non-contact sex can be excitedly arousing and emotionally fulfilling. And, of course, during sexual union when the sky seems to open so a lightning bolt can strike the couple--while fireworks ignite and the earth stops spinning-- this is sex, too." Emotional intimacy is so important and the first step is to allow yourself to be vulnerable with someone is taking the time to build that intimacy with others. One of the primary reasons I've always felt close to women is because of emotional intimacy. The whole package of love, companionship and sex can be so appealing, and I think that is one of the reasons men are attracted to women.
