Meanwhile, in the convention hall
merrie
by merrie  9-5-2008    2
Ooooooooh, Sarah-Bara-COO-dah! If you read the actual lyrics though, this clearly is a song to be sung by Barack Obama. He's just realized that he's about to be ambushed from the weeds by the Barracuda, and forced to his knees. Not long ago, he and "the porpoise" (Joe Biden, pre-hair plugs) were just "Selling a song," with "no right, no wrong" — just playing "a whisper game" involving a "name." This is clearly a reference to the "McSame" meme on which they were relying so much. And "sell me, sell you," the porpoise and the singer croon to each other in close harmony. Oh, yeah: It's about Obama and Biden, all right.

Ouch!... Palin Slams Obama On His Ridiculous Surge Stands
merrie
by merrie  Yesterday 11:01 PM
Experienced Governor Palin blasted him on his surge stands today: Watch MSNBC video at site: http://gatewaypundit.blogspot.com/2008/09/ouch-palin-slams-obama-on-his.html In more bad news for the democratic media conglomerate-- 10,000 subscribers called Us magazine to cancel their subscriptions after their hit piece on Sarah Palin. Hat Tip Andy B. And, Patrick corrected my earlier numbers... Over 40 million watched Sarah Palin on Wednesday not 37 million. The Nielsen ratings showed that Palin attracted a huge female audience of 19.5 million women, nearly 5 million larger than the third day of the Democratic convention when Hillary Clinton spoke. Sarah better look out. The media is hot on her tail and not because they like her. http://gatewaypundit.blogspot.com/2008/09/one-is-two-palin-now-more-popular-than.html

Birds do it, Bees do it, but humans don't!
thinkingblue
by thinkingblue  9-4-2008    1
Of course, we should teach our teenage children good judgement, if that is at all possible when it comes to the powerful instinctual urges belonging to all life, the drive to BEGET. Try telling a teeny bobber about love and responsibility. They'll look at you, the same way you look at a dog chasing its tail, bewilderment of such a stupidity lag. But, for most parents, the teen "eye roll" just slides off their back, down to the floor where it can be easily stepped on. But all sarcasm aside, teaching this program alone is not just block-headed, its outrageously dangerous. By not equipping our young with knowledge on self preservation, we neglect the most basic fact of life, the instinctive teachings of fundamental survival techniques. Go and watch some wild life with their young and you will see such training. Birds do it, Bees do it, even Monkeys in the trees do it. Also on http://thinkingblue.blogspot.com

Strange Laws
sahara
by sahara  8-22-2008    1
In Phoenix, Arizona, you can't walk through a hotel lobby with spurs on. In California, a law created in 1925 makes it illegal to wiggle while dancing. In Utah, daylight must be visible between dancing couples. In Michigan, it is against the law for a lady to lift her skirt more than 6 inches while walking through a mud puddle. In North Carolina, it is against the law for a rabbit to race down the street. In Georgia, it's against the law to spread a false rumor. In West Virginia, one can't cook sauerkraut or cabbage due to the odors and the offence is subject to imprisonment. In Missouri, a man must have a permit to shave. The law states that more than 3000 sheep cannot be herded down Hollywood Blvd. at any one time. In Texas, it is still a "hanging offense" to steal cattle. In Virginia, the Code of 1930 has a statute which prohibits corrupt practices or bribery by any person other than political candidates.

Sleep on It: How Snoozing Makes You Smarter
Mohir
by Mohir  8-11-2008    6
This insight paved the way for a new understanding of organic chemistry and earned Kekulé a title of nobility in Germany. Although most of us have not been ennobled, there is something undeniably familiar about Kekulé’s problem-solving method. Whether deciding to go to a particular college, accept a challenging job offer or propose to a future spouse, “sleeping on it” seems to provide the clarity we need to piece together life’s puzzles. But how does slumber present us with answers?

The Dog's Diary vs The Cat's Diary
swampfoxz
by swampfoxz  8-16-2008    1
Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates my capabilities. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a "good little hunter" I am. Bastards! There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of "allergies." I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage.

English Bulldog Is A Hero: Saves Kittens From Lake
merrie
by merrie  8-4-2008    7
Napoleon got a much deserved hero’s welcome at the adoption center as crowds gathered to praise the brave bulldog and cuddle the rescued kittens. English Bulldogs are notoriously bad swimmers. With a giant head and chest compared to a lighter tail end, they have a tendency to go bottoms up in the water. It’s hard to keep that head up above the waves when it’s the largest part of your body! Most owners are very aware of this problem, and will take care to see that their dogs have a good life vest on if they’re going to be boating or there’s a chance the bulldog could end up in some deep water without someone right at hand to save them if they look like they’re starting to struggle. Don't call me Napoleon, call me Churchill

smallest ever snake found

by boozich  8-4-2008    1
Like other members of the "small" club, L. carlae only produces one offspring at a time, in this case a single slender egg (some other snakes give birth to live young). In addition, its young are giants relatively speaking. In general, the hatchlings of the smallest snakes are one-half the length of an adult, while the largest snakes have hatchlings that are only one-tenth the length of an adult.

" I have said that nobody is safe in Extremistan. This has a converse: nobody is threatened with complete extinction either. Our current environment allows the little guy to bide his time in the antechamber of success- as long as there is life, there is hope" Nassim Nicholas Taleb; The Black Swan (the Long Tail) i say..........this is just a study of "frequency"..the word "just" may not be correctly used here..but that would depend on the depth of the study Taleb is one of my favorites...he has taken a very complex situation...and made it fun..at least for me---"Fooled by Randomness" opened my eyes to how simple everything is in a given situation... sometimes it just takes another perspective within yourself...and why understanding randomness achieves that ..."simplicity"

It is their ability to understand sentences of sign language that astound though, with a sentence like “touch the frisbee with your tail and then jump over it” returning just that from the dolphin. This proves more than just rigorous training is the answer, but an understanding of what we are asking of them.

Haaretz editor: Israel facing existential crisis
jklugman
by jklugman  7-24-2008
The outgoing editor of the Israeli newspaper Haaretz spoke at the London Jewish Book Week. On the 2005 Chris McGreal series that appeared in the Guardian, comparing Israel to South Africa: Landau was "outraged" by the articles at the time, but went on: "I don't feel like that any more. I don't feel that my outrage did sufficient justice to that piece of journalism because I feel that we in Israel have got ourselves into a situation in which we will indeed be facing a South African dilemma. "We will have a country in which we will become the minority and the majority will be denied their political and civil rights. When I re-read the Chris McGreal reports I no longer feel necessarily that that was totally tendentious. It might have been a prophetic piece of journalism. But the point is that the outrage which I gave voice to was an inadequate reaction. The reaction should have been: 'has he got a point?'"
