POPSWhite House Spams Federal Employees With ObamaCare Emails DeParle uses scare tactics that some assume are meant as threats: “No ifs, ands or buts about it " if we do nothing to reform our broken health care system, costs will continue to skyrocket and break the budgets of American families, small businesses and the Federal Government,” read the March 12th email from DeParle… DeParle’s solicitation requests federal employees act on behalf of the President’s agenda by making this directive: “You can help raise awareness by sharing this email with your friends, family and online networks,” read the March 11th email from DeParle. The Chicago Way in action. I don’t know how they think these emails might be effective. Personally, I can detect and delete spam emails at Mach 5, Ms. DeParle would be lucky if I ever read the entire first sentence. I bet for some of these federal workers November 2012 cannot come soon enough. Via: Memeorandum Via: CBS News

POPSClinton Bows to Russian Support of Iran No surprise. This Administration goes ballistic and plays hardball with it's own citizens; not the Countries who pose very serious security threats to the US. Sec. Clinton and Pres. Obama hold not cards and have no grit. No one respects them or gives a whit as to what they think or say. As the article ends: "...it is difficult to describe the administration’s behavior these past few days as being other than amateurish and ideologically hide-bound. For the sake of the country and stability around the world, one hopes that at some point soon they will get their act together...". With the election of Mr. Obama, the era of US as a super-power is over. Behold the rising of China, Russian and Iran. We are NOT better off with all his "hope & change". Hope is gone and the Change is for the worse.

POPSProgressive Wars – Let the Battle for Capitalism Begin
So where are we at as a nation? Well, we have a massive government. We have a Congress that delegates much of its authority to unelected bureaucrats. We have an executive that can’t quite control everything going on in his administration. We have judges that tell us more an more what to do about the most intimate and private questions of our lives. In short, exactly where progressives have wanted to take us for the past 100 years. Down the road to a failed state, as those that exist in Europe. Centralized, bureaucratic and weak. This is not progress, this is decline. This is not where Americans want to go. America does not want to turn away from the principals that made us great. So where do we begin? What should be the first front line?? I believe that the initial battle that must be waged is the assault against capitalism and the free-market system. Clearly this is the biggest threat to our liberties. This is not just about our economy.

POPSYamani or Your Life t is my belief that your newspaper's fulfillment of the above-mentioned conditions would be perceived as a sign of respect and understanding throughout the Muslim world in general, and your newspaper might thus help resolve the severe conflict, which your re-publication of the drawing has created. As you may be aware, this conflict is still affecting Danish and Arab interests, in particular in the Middle East, where a number of Danish products are still being boycotted. It is impossible not to notice the element of threat and menace contained

POPSthe Cove Wins Oscar An Important Message from Ric O'Barry and the Save Japan Dolphins Campaign: If you watched the Oscars, you saw me and Director Louie Psihoyos accept the Best Documentary awarded by the Academy. Wow, what an incredible moment! Without your support, this would never have happened. So, even though I wasn't able to thank you all at the podium, I thank you all now. But this has never been about winning awards. Our job is to end the slaughter and stop the poisoning. And now our work in Japan begins anew. We must focus like a laser on getting The Cove and our message to the Japanese people. But there are threats on the horizon. Officials in Japan are threatening repercussions against university and community groups that dare to show The Cove. Dolphin-killing fishermen's unions are threatening lawsuits against theaters that show the film. There are even some signs that I could face arrest in Japan, even though I've broken no laws whatsoever. We wont give in !

POPS The Green Death This was not a gradual process " a surge of infection and death happened almost immediately. The use of DDT reduces the spread of mosquito-borne malaria by fifty to eighty percent, so its discontinuation quickly produced an explosion of crippling and fatal illness. The same environmental movement which has been falsifying data, suppressing dissent, and reading tea leaves to support the global-warming fraud has studiously ignored this blood-drenched “hockey stick” for decades. The motivation behind Silent Spring, the suppression of nuclear power, the global-warming scam, and other outbreaks of environmentalist lunacy is the worship of centralized power and authority. The author, Rachel Carson, didn’t set out to kill sixty million people " she was a fanatical believer in the newly formed religion of radical environmentalism, whose body count comes from callousness, rather than blood thirst. The core belief of the environmental religion is the fundamental uncleanliness ...

POPSAfter UN Watch Protest, Chief Goldstone Aide Cancels Keynote Address for ‘Russell Tribunal on Palestine’
UN Inquiry Accused of Anti Israel Bias FOX News, March 5, 2010 By Ben Evansky UNITED NATIONS - A controversial United Nations report called the UN Fact-Finding Mission on the Gaza Conflict and more commonly known as “The Goldstone Report,” is under fire for being biased against Israel. Among its conclusions was an accusation that Israel had committed “war crimes” during its twenty-two day war with Palestinian terrorists that ended in January, 2009. Critics discredit this finding - saying key members of the report were clearly biased in favor of the Palestinians. The Geneva based UN Human Rights Council created the Goldstone report in April 2009 after a recommendation by Richard Falk, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on “The situation of Human Rights in the Palestinian Territories Occupied since 1967″, to investigate Israel’s Gaza offensive. Prior to his UN appointment, Falk had written that Israel’s “imposition of collective punishment had a certain resemblan

POPSVeteran Affairs Bureaucrats Live It Up While Taxpayers Foot The Bill Among the files investigators say they found on her government-issued computer were marketing plans, invitation letters, mailing lists and advertising flyers for this private event. The IG report alleges that Ms. Hartmann used threats to compel subordinates to join the marketing effort. She also purportedly charged taxpayers for $727.37 in travel expenses for herself and an underling to make a trip to attend the friend's grand opening. The misuse of travel expenses didn't stop there. By arranging meetings described as "unnecessary" at medical centers in places like Colorado, Las Vegas and San Diego, she was able to rack up thousands in taxpayer-funded travel for what she called official business. Investigators described photographs from Ms. Hartmann's computer that showed her at "work" on these trips - golfing, sightseeing and taking a cruise on Stars and Stripes, the America's Cup yacht....

POPSWasps discovered penicillin millions of years ago
The German researchers found that beewolves teamed up with a type of bacteria called Streptomyces in a symbiotic relationship that benefited both species. In exchange for having a home, the bugs produced a cocktail of nine different antibiotics effective against a broad range of harmful bacteria and fungi. Invading fungal mold and harmful bacteria are major threats to the wasp larvae. Conditions in the warm and humid wasps' nests, which contain large amounts of organic material in the form of prey food, make them breeding grounds for infection. Streptomyces can keep these potentially dangerous pathogens at bay. Female beewolves cultivate the useful bugs in specialised antennal gland reservoirs and apply them to the ceilings of brood cells, said the scientists. The wasp larvae, growing in the cells, later take up the bacteria and transfer them to the outside surfaces of their cocoons. Laboratory tests showed that the beewolves employed an advanced form of ''combination m

POPSGore's NYT op-ed, “We Can’t Wish Away Climate Change” My fellow New Englander Dan Collins at Piece of Work in Progress wins today’s title competition: “Post-Normal Science” … I took the liberty of taking the single quotation marks off “Science” in Collins’ paradigm-changing blogpost hed. Looks more “settled” that way. Gore squats atop the Quotes of the Day at HotAir, but best is last. Apple gadfly/shareholder: “At the first opportunity for audience participation just several minutes into the proceeding, a longtime and well-known Apple shareholder"some would say gadfly"who introduced himself as Shelton Ehrlich, stood at the microphone and urged against Gore’s re-election to the board. Gore ‘has become a laughingstock. The glaciers have not melted,’ Ehrlich said, referring to Gore’s views on global warming. ‘If his advice he gives to Apple is as faulty as his views on the environment then he doesn’t need to be re-elected.’”

POPSSpecies of the Day 19th February 2010 - Sterna-bernsteini
The Chinese Crested Tern, Sterna bernsteini, is listed as ‘Critically Endangered’ on the IUCN Red List of Threatened SpeciesTM. This seabird was previously feared to be extinct but was rediscovered in 2000 when, for the first time, its breeding grounds were located. Exclusively coastal, the Chinese Crested Tern only breeds in China and Taiwan on offshore islets and tidal mudflats. The total population is estimated to be fewer than 50 individuals. The future of this species is threatened by egg-collection (it nests in colonies of other seabirds and collectors do not realise how rare it is) and human disturbance. Other threats include the effects of predatory species such as rats, and the risk of water pollution that affect the terns’ food sources. The Chinese Crested Tern is nationally protected in China and Thailand, and the nesting habitat is patrolled in the breeding season. This has served as an effective deterrent to egg collectors. Programmes to raise local awareness of t

POPSSpecies of the Day 20th February 2010 - Calendula-maritima
The Sea Marigold, Calendula maritima, is listed as ‘Critically Endangered’ on the IUCN Red List of Threatened SpeciesTM. This bright yellow flower is found in Sicily and surrounding islets, growing on the decaying remnants of nitrogen-rich sea grass that is washed ashore. The Sea Marigold is primarily threatened by the encroachment of urban developments on its natural habitat. Since there are currently no legal measures in place to protect this attractive plant, it also faces the threat of collection for its beautiful flowers. In addition to these threats, it has in recent years had to aggressively compete with an alien invasive species, the Iceplant or Hottentot Fig. For now, it is only the Nature Reserves “Saline di Trapani e Paceco” and “Isole dello Stagnone di Marsala” that offer the Sea Marigold protection. Last year, this species was chosen as the official symbol of the province of Trapani. This decision will be accompanied by conservation measures in the field. h

POPSDems in 2005: reconciliation BAD! Dems in 2010: reconciliation GOOD!
**************The Raw Hypocrisy Of Reconciliation ******************** Democracy: Republicans are being warned they must help pass the Democrats' health reform or face the "nuclear option" preventing filibusters. But when in the minority, Democrats called such threats undemocratic. "I say to my friends on the Republican side: You may own the field right now," Biden said on the Senate floor in the gravest of tones. "But you won't own it forever, and I pray God when the Democrats take back control we don't make the kind of naked power grab you are doing." The vice president's prayers have apparently gone unheard. The White House, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid are mulling their chances of ramming through a big-government health reform through abuse of the budget reconciliation process. Thanks to the election last month of Sen. Scott Brown, R-Mass., Democrats lost their 60-seat filibuster-proof majority in the upper house.

POPSThe 15 Elements of President’s Health Care Proposal: Deceit, Arrogance or Desperation
2. of the deficit because costs beyond that point are not considered by the CBO. 3. Uninsured Americans will still make a payment (tax/fee) for not being insured but the threshold is lowered to $18700; i.e., taxes on more Americans. 4. The Proposal gives $40 billion to businesses in tax credits; those tax credits are a drain upon the Federal revenues, that if insufficient, end up adding to the deficit. This is still a mandate to businesses because if they don’t provide coverage they will pay an “assessment” of $3000 (fee/tax) to help defray the “taxpayer’s cost” for those workers which the businesses don’t cover; eventually this will lead to cancellation of all employer coverage and move everyone to a “Government-controlled Healthcare Program.” 5. There is a great deal of language involved in inundating health providers with more paperwork, database requirements and ”law enforcement” threats for catching fraud and abuse.

POPSDown the Memory Hole Yet now, with Crystal Mangum hauled in for attempted murder of a boyfriend, arson, identity theft, communicating threats, damage to property, resisting an officer, misdemeanor child abuse – hell, everything but going after Tiger Woods with a driver – all that’s down the memory hole. Other papers gave the story major play, and offered telling detail. For example, the New York Post’s reporter Rita Delfiner, went into the sordid history of the Duke case and further enlightened readers as to the character of the former accuser by quoting her as ranting to the boyfriend/would be murder victim “I’m going to stab you (expletive).” Yet the Times treated the arrest as such a non-story, it failed to so much as put one of its own on it, instead simply running an AP dispatch. One hundred and eighty three words long. Buried deep, deep down in the sports section.

POPSTerror Bomber Stopped by FBI!
Wow! Credit where credit is due. This was real impressive police work, FBI work. This Afghan, intent on putting a bomb on the subway (tube) was caught in the nick of time. Many have argued this is the type of real intelligence and actions we need, not checking people's shoes at airports or taking their naked pics -- but intel on the street, putting clues together, staying on the case: It was all very impressive. (Shopping for dangerous chemicals, for example, was apparently one of the tip-offs). Well done. Also good is the FBI is getting info from this man in the real best way -- not sadism and torture -- but plea bargaining here and there; maybe a few packs of cigarettes, little things that count if you're in jail. Maybe family visits, stuff like that. Well done USA FBI. [Note: I'm a pretty 'ruthless critic,' of my country doing WRONG, but not of the good things about us and esp. not when seeing things RIGHT. & It's one of the 'good things,' that we can be 'ruthless
