POPS It's Priceless by Thomas Sowell . . . . . while the politicians take credit for generosity and compassion. Employers are ideal targets for such mandates, since there are always more employees than employers, and that is what counts on election day. Whether it is health insurance, time off with pay or whatever, these mandates on employers can be washed down with a little rhetoric about business' "social responsibilities." Where those "social responsibilities" come from is not a problem. It sounds good, and that is good enough for politics. While you are enjoying all the goodies that politicians are sending your way, you may notice that your taxes are going up or that the money you earn or the money you have saved won't buy as much as it used to. Costs that are passed on to businesses can get passed on again to their customers in higher prices. Money that the government prints to spend itself reduces the value of the money in your wallet or in your bank account.

POPSWhat Color Is Your Elephant? With Republican running so far behind the Democratic Party in fundraising, it's no wonder the $150,000 spent on Sarah Palin's wardrobe caused a big fuss. However, the GOP has been making a lot of questionable purchases including a thousand 11-ounce chocolate elephants.

POPS$3,589 Worth of Elephant Shaped Chocolates When money is no object... -$20,000 simply on items classified as "event-donor gifts." -$9,000 at a jewelry and political paraphernalia shop in Washington D.C. -$6,000 to an art restoration company in Kensington, Maryland -$4,249.07 At Lands End -$955 On Golf Carts ...is this a sampling of McCain's idea of "fiscal responsibility" ? Seriously. This is how they are spending other people's money now, what does it tell you?

POPSAre photographers really a threat? Given that real terrorists, and even wannabe terrorists, don't seem to photograph anything, why is it such pervasive conventional wisdom that terrorists photograph their targets? Why are our fears so great that we have no choice but to be suspicious of any photographer? Because it's a movie-plot threat. This is worth fighting. Search "photographer rights" on Google and download one of the several wallet documents that can help you if you get harassed; I found one for the UK, US, and Australia. Don't cede your right to photograph in public. Don't propagate the terrorist photographer story. Remind them that prohibiting photography was something we used to ridicule about the USSR. Eventually sanity will be restored, but it may take a while.

POPSHow to Make The Very Popular Paper Wallet This has become all the rage with people who are into lifehacking and getting things done (gtd) as it's thin, allows you to carry what you need, cheap (one piece of 8 x 11 paper) and you can write, doodle or take notes on it, print your own graphics and throw it away when done.
