The Twelve Apostles and Bloody Sunday (original)
righthand
by righthand  7-18-2008    5
Like America, we had out War of Independence followed by a bloody Civil War on the issue of independence. This was also in common with many other states that gained independence. We didn't gain full independence until 1948 when we took it without a shot being fired. We did lose 6 of our 9 counties of Ulster, our northern providence. Hopefully some day our "four green fields" will be reunited peacefully. By Bush&Co's definition all our leaders would have been terrorists like Nelson Mandela , just like your own revered insurrectionists/freedom fighters/terrorists/founding fathers. Our longest serving PM and president de Valera would have been executed along with the 1916 Rising leaders only he was born in America.

Blackwater Busted, Prince Has "Compliance Challenges"
blueridge
by blueridge  11-14-2008    8
Makes one smile. The arrogant Prince of Blackwater just got nailed with a big fine from the same corrupt Federal government they contracted with. The "war on terrorism" is so profitable. What happened to all the hardware that ended up on the black market in Iraq? (Someone knows). "Compliance challenges", he says. More like rogue operations. This is the same company that shoots whoever is in the area and quickly leaves, whose crimes even U.S. military personnel have reported. Dirty mercenaries are never held accountable for war crimes because they are independent contractors. This is the least the State Dept has on them, just the tip of the proverbial ice berg. Iraq wants to try them there.

Why did the West ignore the truth about the war in Georgia?
brightlight4
by brightlight4  11-14-2008    2
Thank goodness, they might be thinking at the US State Department and the British Foreign Office, for the financial crisis. Were it not for the ever-blacker news about the Western world's economy, another scandal would be vying for the headlines – and one where the blame would be easier to apportion. It concerns our two countries' relations with Russia and the truth about this summer's Georgia-Russia war. Over the past couple of weeks, a spate of reports has appeared in the American and British media, questioning many assumptions about that war, chief among them that Russia was the guilty party. Journalists from the BBC, The New York Times and Canada's Embassy magazine, among others, travelled to South Ossetia, the region at the centre of the conflict, in an effort to establish the facts. Not the "facts" as told by the super-slick Georgian PR machine at the time, nor the "facts" as eventually dragged from the hyper-defensive and clod-hopping communicators of the Kremlin. But the

Israel-Lebanon War Part II Coming Soon
blueridge
by blueridge  11-4-2008    1
Especially as the US transitions to a new President, Israel will be sure to provoke and establish its agenda (and the neocons) for the next administration to support. Note the misleading sub headline, as if Israel's war is restricted to Hezbollah, while last time they bombed over 70 percent of Lebanon's civilian infrastructure which brought only faint and temporary cries of protest from Congress as "disproportionate response".

Obama's 'Change' and Rahm-bo: Neo-conned Again?
blueridge
by blueridge  11-11-2008    7
This article, if read, will burst the bubble of belief by Obama cheerleaders. (Did Pelosi or a Dem Congress change anything either?) Roberts does not spare Obama any more than he did Bush: War policy: In “Hail to the Chief of Staff,” Alexander Cockburn describes Emanuel as “a super-Likudnik hawk,” who as chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in 2006 “made great efforts to knock out antiwar Democratic candidates.” The neoconservatives were and are intimately tied to the Israeli Likud Party with its militant Zionist war agenda for a "new middle east". On Economy: Obama’s advisers are drawn from the same gang of Washington thugs and Wall Street banksters as Bush’s. Consider Obama's support of Lieberman then too, who supported McCain and is another "super-Likudnik hawk" when it comes to Israel and war policy. Get the picture yet? Some very important policies (primary ones) will not "change" at a

US/UK Intel Warns Obama of Transition Attack
blueridge

Which would be too convenient for the neocon agenda (pro-war Biden and Rahm Emanuel, et al, already in place in the Obama administration), as well as too irrational for "Al Qaeda" to do, if the fictitious terrorists wanted to halt the war program under the "change" candidate. Really, what would their motive be? (Oh, "They are irrational zealots...and because they hate us because we are free and women can vote", of course). Biden already warned about this certain coming event to "test" Obama (or provide him a pretext to change). He is in the know. Biden already said "you may not agree with us, but we will need your support...mark my words". The only question is, will the public be fooled by this false flag attack, or fear propaganda again, to justify more wars for Democracy against an invisible enemy while the Intel officials always know their scheme and yet can never find them? Hayden confesses there is "no real or artificial spike" in intel to justify their assertion!

Collective punishment. War crime. 1.4 million peope & refuges being slowly starved to death in front of the eyes of the world. THIS IS NOT POLITICS. THIS IS NOT WAR. THIS IS GENOCIDE. Unfortuntely almost all USA politicians have sold out to the policies of Israel. Starving a million and a half people to death is okay but criticizing the Jewish State is not. Sold out, by the way, for a worse deal that Judas' 30 shekels of silver; they get maybe $100K and vote for Israel getting billions. They also get re-elected which, apparently they feel they achieve without the support of Jewish lobbies, like AIPAC, American Enterprise Institute and dozens of others. Why can we do? Maybe try to get the case to the World Court? -- But the U.S. would certainly veto it. (as with so many other attempts to bring justice to Israel's war crimes). Maybe churches? But many also think you can't criticize Israel; bizarre. It helps see why Pontius Pilate could only wash his hands of t

But They Are Not The First To Fake The New York Times
merrie
by merrie  11-13-2008
Other headlines declared that the "Maximum Wage Law Succeeds," "Nationalised Oil to Fund Climate Change Efforts" and "Nation Sets Its Sights On Building Sane Economy." There is also a full page fake advertisement on page three from the world's largest publicly traded oil company Exxon Mobil saying the company applauded the end of the Iraq war and that peace is "an idea the world can profit from". In a pamphlet handed out to volunteers when they picked up copies of the newspaper to distribute there was a "Frequently Asked Questions" section. In response to "who made this?" it said: "Who knows? Rumors are it's a group of writers from several mainstream dailies - including The New York Times." The Yes Men, who were the subject of a book and documentary in 2004, have pulled off pranks including posing as Exxon Mobil and National Petroleum Council representatives to deliver a speech at a Canadian oil conference.

So if aerial bombardments and occupations give legitimacy to those very fundamentalists who Afghans would remove from power, what does the real war on fundamentalism look like? And it's not just that the Afghan population believes that the Taliban resistance is legitimate; that resistance is legitimate under international law. No less important a document than the United Nations charter gives the Taliban and other Afghans the right to legitimate self-defense against U.S. aggression. Instead of scaling up an already disastrous war, the United States should change it's course The whole article is worth a read.

Hundreds of independent writers, artists, and activists are claiming credit for an elaborate project, 6 months in the making, in which 1.2 million copies of a "special edition" of the New York Times were distributed in cities across the U.S. by thousands of volunteers. The papers, dated July 4th of next year, were headlined with long-awaited news: "IRAQ WAR ENDS". The edition, which bears the same look and feel as the real deal, includes stories describing what the future could hold: national health care, the abolition of corporate lobbying, a maximum wage for CEOs, etc. There was also a spoof site, at http://www.nytimes-se.com/.

Armistice Day November 11, 1918
merrie
by merrie  11-12-2008    1
The armistice was formally signed in Foch's railway carriage on 11 November (in 1940 Hitler exacted revenge by forcing the French to sign an armistice - on German terms - in the same railway carriage). The armistice initially ran for 30 days but was regularly renewed until the formal peace treaty was signed at Versailles the following year. Should the Germans have deviated in any way from the terms of the armistice the Allies warned that a resumption of hostilities would begin within 48 hours. The terms of the armistice required the Germans to evacuate German-occupied territories on the Western Front within two weeks. Allied forces were to occupy the left bank of the Rhine within a month, and a neutral zone established on the right bank. Obama Wants Lieberman in Dem Caucus for Foreign Policy
blueridge
by blueridge  11-11-2008    2
Lieberman is a Dem neocon and endorsed McCain. Why not just include McCain in the Dem Caucus then! This will continue the neocon and Zionist (Israel first) foreign policy of unjust wars for "regime change", a Democratic Jihad (holy war) if you will, under pretense of "war on terrorism" which Obama fully endorses. Obama wants a pro-war Democratic leadership to support his pro-war policy as he revealed in debates with McCain and on his middle east visit. Thus keeping Lieberman is key because the caucus controls the party in its "group think". His support of Lieberman with his pick of "Rahmbo" Emanuel (a very presumptuous name, meaning "God with us" in Hebrew , referring to Christ by the prophets) for Chief of Staff, foretells Obama's true foreign policy that will "change" little from McCain outside of Iraq. Lieberman changed to Independent after losing a Dem primary election, then won as independent. Anti-war Dems are being blocked out.
