POPSComputer visuses hit one million They say it is due to an increasingly professional digital criminal underground. Doesn't that just mean they're making increasing amounts of money? Looks like Vista is as infectious as Windows has ever been. I suppose it pays to become more well versed on the capability, and mechanisms of computer viruses, and watch out for them in addition to relying on antivirus programs. If my programs have found a virus trojan etc, I can't delete it until I've found out what I can about it. I don't remember having any real trouble since I started using firefox, but I'd be surprised if any could compete with some of the operator errors I've had to fix. It can be hard to fix something when the answer can be found on line, and the computer won't boot.

POPS Voter Turnout Didn't Set Record
Democrats' passion wasn't matched by GOP When the official counts are in, Gans said, the final tally may approach 129 million, which would be almost 62 percent of eligible voters, up from 60.6 percent four years ago but below the 1964 turnout rate of 64 percent of eligible voters under Gans's formula. In counts posted as of late yesterday, Obama led McCain 67 million votes to 58.5 million, with 1.7 million votes cast for minor party candidates and write-ins. That is a popular-vote margin of about 6.7 percentage points. Other factors, including down-ballot contests for congressional seats, state offices, and statewide ballot questions also might have affected turnout in some states. While some states trumpeted high turnout figures based on the number of registered voters, neither Gans nor McDonald use voter registration figures as the basis for determining eligible voters because the quality and maintenance of current voter lists varies greatly from state to state.

POPSGay Bashing is Wrong, Period Gay bashing is wrong, period. It can never be justified regardless of which party's interests it serves. Nor can the published speculation that someone is gay be justified. While you might get a different impression on partisan websites, there are values far more important than the partisan value of winning an election at any cost. The ends do not justify the means. Shame on you AFSCME. Shame on you fellow Democrats for resorting to gutter politics in this race.

POPSFlickr has Porn
As a Flickr member I can opt out of seeing pictures by people who post nude or pornigraphic pictures...but I wonder, who else is looking at them? Should I worry that my granddaughter who is 13 years old may mosey on into one of these porn sites on what I thought was mostly used for sharing family photos, like new babies, picnics in the park and pictures you took during vacation....I also know that some pictures of children are being stolen and used in ads or blogs....I found one of my pictures of my 3 day old grandson on a wordpress.org blog where they talk about having cancer. You can imagine my shock, when I saw his picture displayed (he was yawning and if you didn't know it, he looked more like he was crying in pain)....Evidently the author was trying to lure readers who want to see someone (in this case babies) suffering and in pain...I immediately set the picture to private...when I last checked the image was gone, but my name over it is still there, with a link to my Flickr

POPSWhat Kind of Voter are You? "Though they may not think of voter types in Redlawsk's terms, campaigns already target specific groups of voters and build messages that appeal directly to different audiences. Campaigns know that some voters are partisan, working to appeal to those but knowing they must provide specific information on their websites. Redlawsk said his research can also alter prevailing beliefs about the average voter. "There is a lot of stuff in the political world that says voters aren't very smart," he said. "Lots of voters actually do a really good job voting — that is, making decisions that are right for them. "Just because voters can't give us details about everything doesn't mean they can't do a good job.""

POPSSecurity Services Want Your Personal Data, Clippers! The plan will need international cooperation since many of the new CSPs are based abroad, notably in the US. "International cooperation"... as in global? Nice. .:) They say the planned new legislation would apply only to communications data - such addresses and names - but not to the actual contents of the communications. Intercepting the contents would still need ministerial warrants. Warrants? For eavesdropping, spying, invasion of privacy and data collecting? AAAhahaha, good one! That is SO old school. . Clearly concerned about a public backlash against the plan, officials stress that the government is not building up a single central database containing personal information of everyone in the country. Sure. We believe you. Yessiree! We sure do. We even get to pay for it ourselves! Won't that be fun. .:D

POPSSay No to Olympic Coverage.... I don't have many friends here at Clipmarks anymore, but I do still have an opinion. China is like Wal-Mart. Too big to give a damn about other people. They have not improved their human rights or pollution policies. Empty Promises to all of us and their behavior is making the spirit of the Olympics into one BIG sham

POPSA Forbidden City of words Recently, a new technique has been developed that involves some software that changes the alignment of Chinese words from horizontal to vertical, and it's very popular. Chinese sentences can be read from left to right, right to left, and top to bottom. For a Chinese person reading from top to bottom is not a problem – it has been like that for thousands of years, until the early 20th century. However, the forbidden vocabulary-seeking mechanism is fooled. When all these methods fail, people can still use mobile phones and text messages, which are not covered by the censoring system yet.

POPSFree Nationwide Wi-Fi Network To Censor Political Websites Blogs, social networks, alternative news to be filtered out I wonder if Clipmarks will be among them? If they want to block "alternative political websites, that go against the corporate establishment", blogs, alternative news and social networks, then half the internet will be banned! *LOL* Damn, if this wasn't so ridiculously fascist, it would be funny.
