POPSSome updates to Clipmarks We've got a lot of great projects in the pipeline that we'll be rolling out over the next few weeks and months. We introduced some of these changes this week. If you click the source URL in this clip you'll see the blog post that outlines some of them. In addition to some new features, our work will primarily focus on accomplishing 3 things: (i) make the user interface of the site more intuitive and user friendly; (ii) strengthen the social aspects of the site (iii) make the site much faster and more reliable

POPSJuliapatriciaroy gives ClipCast a glowing review Who can argue with Julia...she has to be right! :) Julia is definitely someone i have a great deal of respect for. In my mind, she's ahead of the curve when it comes to fully grasping the powerful social implications of the web. Having her think so highly of clipmarks really means a lot to us. Thanks Julia!

POPSSnag Films -The Documentary Widget Many of the most prominent documentary filmmakers are participating not only by having their films distributed via SnagFilms, but by engaging with their audience through blogs and offering special “bonus” material, as well as suggesting nonprofit organizations that viewers motivated by these films can link to and support via charitable contributions, volunteering or spreading the word.

POPSCelebrity Meter Although there are a few different standards for highlighting links like these, most social networking sites, blog software and hosting services support one or more. They're relying on site builders to highlight such links by using special markup. Google uses this information to build a graph of all sites and their links to one another. Rather than request the API from each site individually (Twitter followers, MySpace friends, etc.), Google provides a single RESTful API to send a simple query in one shot. While there are limits to this data (Facebook info is currently not available in this widget), the information we're getting is real and the friend information we're getting isn't a simple number but a list of live URLs that Google has vetted for us.

POPSClipmarks goes green for 48 hours! A new home page and green clips for the next 48 hours. I look forward to seeing what kind of message we can send as a community. I do want to point out that anyone who does not want to use the green backgound color for their clipmarks during the next two days can click the color widget at the top-right of the save clipmark window to change it.

POPSRockMe. Online Music Festival
This is Me.dium's Dudeofmusic blog. I had a chance to chat with him, Rose Hill Drive's Jake Sproul and the the CTO of Pandora internet radio, Tom Conrad. I love Pandora and apparently, they love Me.dium. Me.dium's a browser add-on that allows you to see other people that are online the same time you are. It's hard to explain but it is a surreal experience. Within the browser client there is a chat box and a interactive "world" where you can see what sites other users are on and jump around from site to site with them... all while chatting together. RockMe. (http://rockme.dium.com/) is an event that harness Me.dium, allowing users to discover, meet and share their favorite artists. Get the browser add-on, http://me.dium.com/tutorial Interact with who's on your blog with the Me.dium widget: http://rockme.dium.com/ What will the browser applications of the future do?! Teleport me into the computer where I can visit my Second Life home as me, and leave my avatar in the invento

POPSBlock Facebook from tracking what you do on other sites Facebook Beacon allows sites to send info about your activity back to your facebook profile. While you can opt out, Nate brings up the valid point that whether or not you choose to show this information on your profile, it's still being gathered by facebook from any site that participates. Nate provides an easy way to block the beacon service in firefox, but the real question at hand here is much like the one that I have about MyBlogLog, which tracks my activity around many sites around the web (including my own blog, where i've installed the widget) and shows my profile picture there. For now, I enjoy the community aspect of getting to see who is surfing those sites and having my picture among other visitors, but at what point do utility and privacy cross? Similarly with Facebook Beacon, I'd be cool with sites adding information to my profile, but I'd definitely like it to be an opt-in service rather than an opt-out one.

POPSWeb Clips....the future of ClipMarks I've only been using clipmarks for a couple hours now but I love it. It's a really neat idea and it seems to be working great. Those of you that are fans of Apple probably noticed a slight similarity between this and the future Web Clips. Very interesting, these two apps are going to make keeping up with news and information as easy as hitting one button.

POPSClipmarks suggestion: add Tumblr to Clip-to-Blog(tm)? Tumblr and Clipmarks seem like a perfect match. It's easy to embed a clip in a Tumblr-hosted tumblelog, but -- something for the developers to consider -- I bet the site would gain some good visibility from automating the process. Especially if it were just as easy to insert a plain HTML clip (like you can with Clip-to-Blog on Blogger) as it is to embed a Flash clip widget

POPSiSpeech iSpeech is a true Webservice that converts any text into speech instantly. Not only does iSpeech convert text to speech, but it also allows the user to download an MP3, podcast, and even embed a customizable widget into any website or blog that supports objects. But why stop there? Why not give users the ability to convert any Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat (PDF), HTML, or RSS feed into spoken audio.

POPSAre you on "MyBlogLog" yet? MyBlogLog lets you see who's visiting your site, and show what sites your visiting. It's looks like a great way to connect with other readers of the blogs you read, and also to highlight the community that reads your own.
