POPSKarzai offers Mullah Omar security for peace talks This could be a great opportunity to get out of Afghanistan. If Omar agrees then all the US has to do is disagree and agree with Karzai's choice that we leave. First of all, Karzai would get some benefit by showing he is not a puppet of the US. Likely the benefit to him would be short lived without western support. The US would be able to disagree to the plan of providing security for talks with terrorists, thereby maintaining our long held position on that matter. In addition we would be respecting the wishes of the Afghan government by withdrawing, thereby showing respect for international law. And we could best of all withdraw our troops The longer we stay in Afghanistan the more people get killed, the more resources get used, the more money (we don't have) get's spent. And the more terrorist wannabes and people who hate us are created.

POPSStop Blaming Capitalism For Government Failures stagnation had Americans looking for an alternative. That’s what Reagan offered, denouncing big government and promising a new “morning in America.” Under Reagan, some taxes were reduced, inflation was subdued, a few regulations were relaxed--and the economy roared back to life. But while markets were able to function to a greater degree than in the immediate past, the regulatory and welfare state remained largely untouched, with government spending continuing to increase, as well as some taxes. Later administrations were even worse. Bush Jr., often laughably called a champion of free markets, presided over massive new governmental controls like Sarbanes-Oxley and massive new welfare programs like the prescription drug benefit. None of this is consistent with capitalism. As the economic system that fully recognizes and protects individual rights, including the right to private property, capitalism means, in Ayn Rand’s words,

POPSA Butler Well Served by This Election I think it's probably a fair criticism that there's been a little too much talk about the historic nature of this election. It's no doubt historic -- it's just gotten a little bit too breathless at times. Lots of journalists have been grasping at a story that captures the history, but a lot of the stories have just relied on repeating "historic". Now, if you agree with my premise, that it is historic but it's been a bit overblown, then you probably wish there was one, really great story, that captured it all, right? Here it is -- the story that everyone else wishes they'd written.

POPSTake Action: American's Been Hi-Jacked By Socialists FreedomMarch.org is a new nonprofit political activist group dedicated to the effective action needed to protect America from the disturbing trends indicated by the election. Strategies are being developed. Check back or Join FreedomMarch for updates. We plan a peaceful nationwide march on Jan 17, 2009 to communicate to Obama, (provided that he is not disqualified by then) and Congress, that millions of Americans are monitoring them closely, and that they must respect our wishes.

POPS Soldier's Days Finally, heartfelt thanks from citizen Jeff G. at Protein Wisdom, where reader Tim McNabb replies with the simple sincerity of a soldier: Your welcome Jeff. And to all you douchebags on the left who, in your mendacious fits of juvenile petulance lash and spit at the nation in which you are free to be a lashing, spitting, mendacious petulant, juvenile douchebag, you too are welcome.

POPSIs Proposition 8 Behind the 8 Ball? It should be!
When I read the questions on my Fl. ballot, I thought, “Why is Prop 8 there in all it's intolerance?” This election should be about issues not the same old worn out divisions, propagandized by the religious right for far too long. The GUNS, GAYS AND GOD mantra Karl Rove and his like, peddled, until the United States did not resemble anything UNITED, more like The Divided States of Amer. How naive of me, believing their divisive plan didn’t work and was therefore, over. With Separation of church & state a survivor. But here it was a religious question written into a civil ballot. Then, I thought, PROP 8 WILL SURELY BE DEFEATED... Wrong again. What will it take to keep religion out of the lives of people who do not wish to buy into it? What will it take to keep the prying eyes of the law out of our sexual orientation? It probably will never end but when the blind faith of religion wishes to erase that separation, we who are in possession of common sense must always fight back.

POPSWho Would Be A Good Pick For AG? How About That Woman. . . . .
who erected the "wall" between the CIA & FBI? uh, NO!!! pointing to her experiences at both Fannie Mae and the Sept. 11 commission." To that, my response is to jump up and down with both hands waving frantically as I shout, "Damned right we are! Damned right!" Short of appointing an actual member of al Qaeda, I cannot imagine a more offensive symbolic repudiation of the Global War on Terror — nor a more enthusiastic embrace of the chronic mismanagement, cronyism, and graft which led to this fall's credit crisis — than the appointment of Jamie Gorelick as attorney general. When Obama choose an amoral, souless Hard Left hitman like Rahm Emanuel to be his chief of staff, I was willing to grant that such is his right for such a position, and I didn't even grumble. Indeed, because Emanuel is likely to be effective in doing his principal's wishes, that simply means that Barack Obama himself can be held strictly accountable for his administration's successes and fai

POPSAhmadinejad Offers Obama Landmark Congratulations That policy, Ahmadinejad claimed, was "based on warmongering, occupation, bullying, deception and humiliation, as well as discrimination and unfair relations" and has led to "hatred of all nations and majority of governments toward the U.S. leaders." Ahmadinejad also said that Obama is expected to replace such a policy with "an approach based on justice and respect, as well as lack of intervention in the affairs of others." Iranians will welcome such changes, Ahmadinejad added. Saeed Leilaz, an independent analyst in Tehran, said Ahmadinejad's message was a "positive step" that now leaves Washington with the responsibility for the next one. Leilaz added he believes Obama's victory will "weaken radicalism" in Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran and North Korea.

POPSCan The Government Punish Legal Behavior?
"Once the government breaks the rules and conducts a mixed war on one or more citizens without probable cause, it loses its right to expect the citizens to continue to obey the government's wishes. The citizen(s) are entitled, in fact have a duty, to do whatever is necessary to control the government and force the government to obey the law. The U.S. Declaration of Independence elaborates quite thoroughly about that." Remember, “Morality is a political question enforced at the ballot box, not a legal question subject to police power.” “If we accept the idea that "The end justifies the means," then we will cease to be a nation of laws and become a nation of opportunistic power. If we allow the government to ignore the requirement that it have probable cause, then anyone can be convicted of anything. Just find something he did that's embarrassing though legal, attack him with such overwhelming power that he cannot make well thought choices of action”

POPSYou called our daughter what? A true conservative, selected names with his wife and then ignored her wishes. No respect. And as for the poor kid, having a father like that would be handicap enough, let alone a stupid name that her attention seeking father imposed on her. And Mum was named after the Eric Clapton song. Sure improved her life. She probably hates one of the best songs ever.

POPSAlaska Ethics probe says Pain abused her power McCain and Palin are trying to bullshit people, saying that this is a partisan attack, but the public record shows their lie. The probe was started before there was even a hint of a rumour that McCain was going to tap Palin as his VP pick. The committee was bipartisan . That means there was no partisan agenda involved in it. McCain/Palin; they keep lying, and lying, and lying, and lying, and lying... <drum beat in the background>

POPSAmerica, Love It or Leave It Wherever that is, there will probably be a few American tanks and some bombers and things, but at least you won't be keeping the rest of us awake with your shrill cries over phantoms of lost liberty. There may be other countries with higher standards of living, with better governments more responsive to the wishes of their electorate. Sure, there may be countries where freedom and human rights are more than just catchphrases to be tossed out the window the minute it's inconvenient, such as I admit does happen in the United States now and then (especially now). ----- Indeed, with poverty, racism, inequality, a disintegrating infrastructure, corporate control of the government, and the spiralling degradation of the environment, some crybabies could claim that America is no longer the greatest nation in the world. ------ If you look on the bright side of things, if you see the ass as half-full instead of half-empty, you realize we've never had it so good.

POPSIf you suddenly fall ill, do your loved ones know your wishes? The Five Wishes document helps you express how you want to be treated if you are seriously ill and unable to speak for yourself. It is unique among all other living will and health agent forms because it looks to all of a person's needs: medical, personal, emotional and spiritual. Five Wishes also encourages discussing your wishes with your family and physician. Five Wishes lets your family and doctors know: 1. Which person you want to make health care decisions for you when you can't make them. 2. The kind of medical treatment you want or don't want. 3. How comfortable you want to be. 4. How you want people to treat you. 5. What you want your loved ones to know. … The document speaks to people in their own language, not in "doctor speak" or "lawyer talk." It can be used in the living room instead of the emergency room. And it helps families talk with their physician about a difficult subject.

POPSCoercion and Freedom if you were to ask, say, the average senior citizen whether Social Security, Medicare and prescription drug subsidies should be continued, he would probably answer yes. The same would be true if you asked a college professor whether higher education should continue to be subsidized, or a farmer or a dairyman whether their products should be subsidized, or a manufacturer whether there should be tariffs and quotas on foreign products that compete with his product. The problem with congressmen producing favors and privileges to all interest groups is that it creates what none of us wants: massive control, numerous dictates and micromanagement of our lives.
