McCain: "We were greeted as liberators" in Iraq
masbury
by masbury  7-27-2008    5
Eeyow! Bad enough that neocons' judgment was so poor as to predict we would be greeted as liberators (I believe it was Wolfowitz), here's McCain "remembering" that we supposedly WERE greeted as liberators in Iraq. No wonder we keep getting into these wars! Don't you dare, McCain-ites, don't you dare try to spin this into truth! Also, McCain says Obama has "a pretty good timetable" on Friday, then denies he used the word "timetable" on Sunday. What's happening here?

Romney: It's not torture unless you admit it
zasel
by zasel  1-15-2008    1
Mitt Romney apparently has not strength of character. He insists that if the president says a particular interrogation is not torture, then it is NOT torture, no matter what international law might stipulate. He uses the Jack Bauer theory of necessary torture, which indicates to me that as president he will be spending much too much time watching TV instead of governing the country. Perhaps he can make Keifer Sutherland the Director of Homeland Security.

McCain Decides to Punish Larry King Over CNN Interview
DanaGarrett
by DanaGarrett  9-2-2008    1
What a petty, angry little man John McCain is. Nothing happened in the interview that required retribution. He just didn't like anyone pulling off the mask on his awful vice presidential pick. The "punishment" is a shot over the bow to the press warning them to back off asking difficult questions. Sadly, the press probably will back off. Who wants to risk losing future interviews and exclusives? It's bad for business.

Obama's Supreme U-Turns
merrie
by merrie  7-12-2008    3
The Supreme Court also looked at a Louisiana law extending the death penalty to the rape of a child. In another 5-to-4 decision, the Court ruled the Constitution doesn’t permit capital punishment for raping a child. The majority opinion argued the death penalty for that crime “poses risks of over-punishment.” Senator Obama criticized the decision: “I think that the rape of a small child, 6 or 8 years old, is a heinous crime and if a state makes a decision that under narrow, limited, well-defined circumstances the death penalty is at least potentially applicable, that that does not violate our Constitution.” Like many Americans, I agree with that. The problem is that Justices Ginsburg, Breyer and Souter don’t. All of them voted to overturn the death penalty for child rapists.

Wolf Blitzer interviews Ron Suskind, author of The One Percent Doctrine . Suskind has two explosive allegations: (1), the CIA concluded that Osama Bin Laden wanted Bush re-elected in 2004 and released a tape to help him gain re-election; and (2) the Bush administration deliberately bombed Al-Jazeera in Kabul in 2001.

This "Breaking News" is Broke!
zasel
by zasel  2-2-2007    7
When the hell with the U.S. public finally grow-up? Are there no more important situations going on in the world that who sleeps with whom? I was absolutely livid as I was watching CNN's "The Situation Room" when Wolf Blitzer interrupted a discussion he was having with a political journalist to announce that Gavin Newsom has admitted to having an affair with his former campaign manager's wife. Newsom himself is divorced. These are all adults capable of working out their own problems. Why in God's name should the public give a damn about their personal marital problems? With Iraq boiling over into Iran, and the world collapsing around us, we shouldn't even be the slightest bit concerned in this kind of tabloid journalism. I have written to CNN about this, and I hope others might do the same.

U.S. Ambassador Cites Positive Changes In Iraq
merrie
by merrie  7-2-2008    1
The enemy may be pushing back, the Iraqi government’s response displays intolerance for these acts and a determination to reclaim their neighborhoods from the perpetrators, the ambassador said. Leadership response to a June 24 attack in Sadr City aimed at district council members is a prime example. On June 26, the council reconvened to hold the election that had been scheduled for the day of the attack and elected one of the members who had been wounded as its new chairman. It then denounced the attackers, publicly thanked the United States for its support, and extended sympathy to those affected by the attack, Crocker said. “We’ve got more hard work in front of us,” he said. “The fighting is by no means over, but clearly we are in a different and better place than we were even six months ago.” Though work remains to be completed in Iraq, Crocker said, he is certain the climate is in place for Iraqis to build their country on all fronts -- security, political and economic.

Mad About Mary
zasel
by zasel  1-30-2007
It seems Mr. Cheney is caught in a hypocrites worst dilemma. Having to face the fact that a close member of his family repudiates the political ideology he and his boss ran on and uses to court their base. But to espouse anti-Gay views and then refuse to respond to a reasonable question about his lesbian daughter's pregnancy, which is hardly a secret, reveals a new level of hypocrisy unlike any I have ever witnessed. He uses our sons and daughters as cannon fodder for his neo-con agenda and yet refuses to discuss an openly acknowledged situation regarding his own daughter. Is this arrogance to the core or just plain blindness to the public's perception of him? This is just one more thing I can add to my list of why I cannot stomach Dick Cheney.
