POPSFifty Is The New Zero American education at work - we seem to be into the third generation of the uneducated teaching children. What a joy these students will be to their future employers. We will always need garbage collectors.

POPSA Third Way? Social democratic policies actually enhance individual rights by raising the standard of living of the great majority of the population, increasing social mobility, raising the power of workers and consumers in society. The unregulated market that fiscal conservatives advocate is incapable of addressing global poverty and inequality in an equitable way. Social democracy stabilises economic conditions by providing economic security to individuals and eliminating the threat of extreme poverty. By restricting some economic rights, social democracy makes the market more fair (for small businesses and consumers, for example). The argument that social democratic governments spend too much and run up deficits is undermined by the record of conservative administrations (e.g. in the United States and the United Kingdom) which have run up unprecedented deficits.

POPSFla. social workers dig into own pockets for needy clients this is so sad but so true. i thought if i got my social work degree then i could stop doing this...the acceptance board must have been wondering if i'd lost my mind when i said i wanted to go into social work so i could learn how to help without using my own money among other reasons...

POPS"Welfare State Mentality" at the bottom of our financial woes! He who is ever desiring wealth goes running after money, and does not see that need will come on him. Prov 28:22 (BBE) Wealth gained hastily will dwindle, but whoever gathers little by little will increase it. Prov 13:11 (ESV) If you work hard for it you will appreciate the fruits of your labor more so then if it is simply handed to you without the toil and the sweat.

POPSA Conservative For Obama I saw this clipped earlier, but I didn't realize the gravity of the endorsement. Wow, a publisher of the National Review saying, "But I now see that Obama is almost the ideal candidate for this moment in American history. I disagree with him on many issues. But those don’t matter as much as what Obama offers, which is a deeply conservative view of the world. Nobody can read Obama’s books (which, it is worth noting, he wrote himself) or listen to him speak without realizing that this is a thoughtful, pragmatic, and prudent man. "

POPSI Never Heard of Anybody Getting a Dual Ph.D. dulios recently mentioned to me that conservatives were talking about me on their threads, accusing me of lying about my education and experience. I'd say first, Google me. But, addressing it only once, this clip should be proof enough.

POPSSocial welfare programs do not keep a country from prosperity
The Nordic states have also worked to keep social expenditures compatible with an open, competitive, market-based economic system. Tax rates on capital are relatively low. Labor market policies pay low-skilled and otherwise difficult-to-employ individuals to work in the service sector, in key quality-of-life areas such as child care, health, and support for the elderly and disabled. The results for the households at the bottom of the income distribution are astoundingly good, especially in contrast to...American social policy. The U.S. spends less than almost all rich countries on social services for the poor and disabled, and it gets what it pays for: the highest poverty rate among the rich countries and an exploding prison population. Actually, by shunning public spending on health, the U.S. gets much less than it pays for, because its dependence on private health care has led to a ramshackle system that yields mediocre results at very high costs.

POPSDo you have too much debt like the federal government? do you have too much debt and still can't pay as you go? The congress just keeps spending on programs and not billing us for those programs, increasing our debt. Insane. If there is no credit limit, many will go to excess. No oversight or restrictions is NOT capitalistic, it's criminal. Govt's main function is to protect it's citizens. HA!

POPSAbstinence or a condom in every pot Over the past two decades, as more and more school systems have implemented abstinence programs, the rate of teen pregnancy has declined. The number of high-school students who say they are virgins has increased, and the abortion rate has dropped. Is all of this good news due to abstinence-only programs? It’s a complex subject, and the evidence remains inconclusive. And clearly any school abstinence message is practically drowned out by the vulgar and licentious culture all around us. Still, we may be slowly climbing out of the hole we’ve dug for ourselves. The last thing we should be doing is declaring abstinence education a failure.

POPSThe Equal Rights Party It's been nearly 128 years, and still no woman has made it to the White House. No person of color has even made it to the Vice Presidency. Money is still a major obstacle for candidates. The private lives of public figures are still an issue. Victoria Woodhull and Frederick Douglass are two very key figures in our nation's history, sadly, not many people know about them. They are both very interesting people who lived extraordinary lives, click the links and read about them, I have included links for both.

POPSGoodbye To Faulty Software? The program that performs the computation is equivalent to the proof of the theorem. By proving the theorem the program is guaranteed to be correct. It is not that simple, of course, but so promising is type theory that since 1989 the EU has been funding a string of projects to develop it under the Future and Emerging Technologies programme. That style of working is going to change so that we spend more effort on actually writing programs than testing them.

POPSCourt Moves To Charge Sudanese President al-Bashir With Genocide "The solution to problems and the current situation in Darfur is not completely independent from the work of the International Criminal Court." The German chancellor said she and Ban also discussed instability in Zimbabwe and the challenge of supporting Africa as food and fuel prices skyrocket. Merkel said that Germany had pledged €600 million (US$954 million) in emergency aid to African nations struggling to deal with rising prices. "Naturally, Germany is strongly committed to development aid." Ban was in Germany for a two-day visit that will also take him to Bonn, where several U.N. programs have their headquarters.

POPSThree Orphaned Lion Cubs Being Bottle-Fed By Zookeepers
White lions are regarded as a rarity in the wild. In captivity, however, it seems a different story. In fact three white cubs were born to another lioness at the zoo in Schloss Holte-Stukenbrock, south-west of Hamburg, at exactly the same time. She however, was happy to raise her litter herself. Fortunately these two-week-old white lion cubs are in good hands with the zoo keepers adopting the maternal role. In captivity, both male and female lions, who are unusually social compared to other cats, can live for over 20 years. The German public has a soft spot for orphaned animals. Knut, the first polar bear born in Berlin Zoo for 30 years, became a national celebrity after his mother rejected him. Life, however, hasn't been easy for the bear who attracts at least 200 visitors a day. He is said to have become addicted to human attention. 'Knut is a problem bear who has become addicted to human beings,' German animal rights activist Frank Albrecht said.

POPSA Hero from the Poverty Class Our family has admired Ben Carson for years. He didn't escape poverty and turn around to blame other poor people for not being able to do the same. Instead, he works to build the scaffolding necessary to lift others to where he is.

POPSDo US Internment Camps Really Exist? The really big question is which one of us reading this will be interned in one of these camps? Considering the size and scope of the ones we know about, compared with the already 1 in 100 prison population we currently have, you have to imagine that the near future will see a much higher ratio. Can you imagine 1 in every 50 citizens in a camp or prison? Hell, even 1 in 75 would be astounding. With a ratio that high you can be assured you are someone you know will be classified an "Enemy Combatant." Also, since REX 84 handed us over to NORTHCOM, we no longer have any sovereignty any way. It's all very frightening when you start questioning the reasons behind this sort of wholesale US sell out.

POPSInt'l Whaling Comm. Fails, Threats to Whales Mount, Whaling Nations Dig In A new report on climate change suggested dire consequences for the world’s whales if immediate steps aren’t taken to mitigate the effects of changes in sea temperature, freshening of seawater from melting ice and increased rainfall, sea level rise, loss of polar habitats, and the decline of krill populations. Meanwhile, the IWC’s Scientific Committee continued its important work on assessments of threats to whales from ship strikes, fisheries entanglements, and underwater noise generated by human technology, including energy company exploration, as well as from emerging and recurring diseases.
