POPSEmployer Based Benefits: An Eroding Model For Health Insurance During her pregnancy, Jennifer Danylyshyn's regular visits to her obstetrician were covered by her Blue Shield policy. So was the delivery of Ava on March 24. The couple expected that Ava would be covered as a matter of course. When the company rejected the baby because of the hip misalignment, her parents appealed with the help of their pediatrician. Blue Shield refused to budge.

POPSLiving With Different Generations, What We Can Learn?
I found this clip very interesting. We can see how things are so different for all generations. Baby Boomers (ages 43 - 61), Generation X kids (ages 28 - 42), and Millennial kids ( age <27) different opinions. Your have to read it...and see how we can learn a little beet more about Generations. "For Millenials, time is the commodity of value, not money. They "work to live" but their parents "live to work" and Millenials struggle with following in their footsteps. That is, they see the Boomers stress and long work hours and sincerely don't want it. For a Millenial, when their specific portion of work is done, It's time to have fun. Time is the currency of value, not money, and if they work hard it is so they can get time off. They value time off as Boomers valued money. They tend to spend many more years in "young adulthood", the twilight between high school single hood and working parenthood. Many of them wait until they are in their late 20' to get married.

POPSSchool bags can be a pain in the neck When i went to school the textbooks weighed a ton, but I end up working out how to strap my bag to an airport trolly, and tow it behind my bike. Never had any trouble. at least not with my bike. School on the other hand was one of my pet hates, but i worked out how to make it so they weren't looking for me, then i could go home...but that's another story

POPSHigh childhood IQ linked to antitraditional attitudes in adults A study of a large representative sample of the UK population shows that high childhood IQ is correlated with antitraditional (i.e., liberal, mostly) attitudes in adults (described as "antiracist, pro-working women, socially liberal," and democratic). This correlation is independent of gender, occupation and social class. POPSFamily Details Troubled Life Of Man Behind Rampage But then, he said, a Jewish watchdog group stole her away in the dead of night and returned her to her family. Shortly afterward, he was sent to prison for a year, for what other family members and police said were drug-related charges. “The problems started after he was in jail. After he came out of jail, he was always alone. … He is a good man, but after prison, he was confused and nervous,” his cousin said. However, his family arranged a marriage with a young woman from his village, and they now have two young sons. Israeli police spent Wednesday afternoon interrogating his family but then left, and have said they believe he was acting alone.

POPSItipini Community Project & Mthatha Mission I've been following Jesse Zink's blog Mthatha Mission for many months. When I ran across the video today, which incorporates some of his photos, I put the the video and Jesse's excellent blog together to share both with others who may not know of the work being done to help the people who, by accident of birth, live in the Itipini community outside Mthatha, South Africa.

POPSSettlement in NY lawsuit over NBC's 'Predator' What interest me in The predator series also makes me wonder if it is a set up. maybe we have been overzealous in trying to prosecute every person who ever chat in such site. I never doubt some of them is guilty but you still cannot prosecute someone for chating. I have a friend in college who once got so drunk and went on Greyhound. He accidentally brushed against a little girl. The parents screamed MOLESTATION and a MOP formed and beat the shit out of him. The police came and threw him in county jail for 5 days . It took another 2 years of legal fighting to clear his name before every charges was dropped.

POPSCambodian children march against child labour I love the last paragraph. Bastard - it is the standard reply from politicians when questioned on child exploitation. If I had ten bucks for every time I have heard or read those exact same sentiments......

POPSSex Ed Teacher Answers Student Questions on Masturbation, Parents Seek Criminal Charges This type of fear based mentality on the side of parents and school administrators is a large part of the reason teens struggle with sexual issues. Parents don't want to talk about it...prosecute teachers who try to answer the students questions...and yet we ask "Oh my! What has happened to our youth? Where have we gone wrong?" These parents need to be sued for utter stupidity. Don't attack a Sex-Ed teacher for trying to answer legitimate questions! If they want to control the minds of their children...HOME SCHOOL them in a church basement somewhere and mind the shackles please, they tend to come loose with time and age.

POPSFemale absenteeism is not just about child care Flett acknowledges that women carry most of the responsibilities at home, whether caring for ill children or aging parents. But he believes women can be their own worst enemies in the workplace because they feel the need to give managers too much information. “Women will often make excuses for why they’re not coming to work, which opens them up to the alpha males that keep them out of the corner office.” But, he maintains, just being a woman, mom or not, can work against you: “It’s a stereotype inoculated in our bone marrow. You are less reliable because you’re a girl and not driven by testosterone.”

POPSContractor Atrocity--It's Lying ... and It's Murder: How KBR Electrocuted US Troops
"... and marines in Iraq and Afghanistan. These deaths did not come while the soldiers were on patrol or by unexpected encounters with downed "hot" wires. These "accidents" happened in facilities used as base camps for U.S. units, camps that were to have been completely refurbished - including the wiring - under terms of a $30 billion no-bid contract awarded to the one-time Halliburton subsidiary KBR (formerly Kellogg-Brown-Root). The deaths reportedly all were the result of shoddy workmanship in the grounding of electrical sources, both in permanent structures and in machinery when in use. The problem is not new: in 2004, Army units in theatre were alerted concerning the potential for accidental electrocution. American electricians working for KBR in the war zone observed and notified KBR and even the Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA), the office that monitors contractor performance, of numerous instances of poor workmanship by undertrained and underpaid Iraqi and Afghan "e

POPSNo, Not Fat-Free, BPA-Free It's been a day since the US Department of Health and Human Services National Toxicology Program released a draft evaluation of bisphenol A, acknowledging that the chemical may pose a health threat to infants and children. And as the NY Times reported yesterday, the Canadian government is likely about to declare the chemical, commonly used in plastic baby bottles and cans (food and soda), toxic. Not surprisingly, I'm already getting pitches about BPA-free products, which are sure to see a boost in sales in the coming months. As a new mom and a health reporter, I became aware about many researchers' concerns about BPA last year while working on a story. I have to admit that it frightened me. Whatever the truth is about how big a threat BPA poses, I'm guessing few parents want to risk their babies' health while waiting for further study results. These days, a BPA-free label means a whole lot more to me than most nutrition labels.

POPS Comprehensive Economic Revitalization Plan Here are a few of the plan's basics: Eliminate Taxes on Social Security Benefits. That money belongs to seniors, not the government. They paid into the system for a lifetime, and they should be free to spend every penny as they see fit. * Pass H.R. 192 to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to repeal the 1993 increase in taxes on Social Security benefits. # Eliminate Taxes on Tips. The single parents and working students who earn their income chiefly through tips deserve to keep all of their money. This tax on "estimated income" is unfair and should be ended. * Pass H.R. 3664 to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide that tips shall not be subject to income or employment taxes. Reduce Overseas Military Commitments. Our bases and troops should be on our soil. * It's time to stop subsidizing our trading partners in Europe, Japan and South Korea.

POPSGetting Poverty Wrong While they insist that strengthening labor unions or protecting homeowners from foreclosures will alleviate the hardships of the poor, the latest data from the U.S. Bureau of the Census remind us that the breakdown of the traditional two-parent, married family is a far greater contributor to poverty in America than many of the supposed shortcomings of our economy. It’s hard to imagine that America will make much more headway on reducing persistent poverty until it halts this long-term trend. The Census Bureau’s study on the living arrangements of American children appeared in mid-February. The data show that the number of children now living in two-parent families has dipped just below the 70 percent mark for the first time since the Census began collecting data on family formation nearly 130 years ago. Researchers estimate that the entire rise in poverty in America since the late 1970s can be attributed to the decline of families headed by two married parents.

POPSRules Kids Won't Learn In School "This is the flip side of "It's my life," and "You're not the boss of me," and other eloquent proclamations of your generation. When you turn 18, it's on your dime. Don't whine about it or you'll sound like a baby boomer."
