POPSEducation Challenges Borrowed from the Pirate Monkey. Holy cats! At least the teacher did his/her homework and discerned that, in fact, a kilometer is NOT longer than mile -- before writing the letter. But the rest of the reasoning? Yikes...

POPSObama Addresses 9/11 Government Complicity Bush says this, "For example, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed described the design of planned attacks of buildings inside the U.S. and how operatives were directed to carry them out. That is valuable information for those of us who have the responsibility to protect the American people. He told us the operatives had been instructed to ensure that the explosives went off at a high -- a point that was high enough to prevent people trapped above from escaping." Bush talks about EXPLOSIVES in building "Seven is Exploding" NYFD say Explosives brought down Towers

POPSUh, who said that? "those who saw... may wonder..." Come on, name a few names. Please don't ascribe opinions to vague groups of people -- who may not even exist. I for one, see the Obama presidency as a clean break from the anti-science, self-interest-driven Bush years. Exaclty what he does and how he does it, I will leave to his creative genius. Along with the smart, ethical, capable and humane people he picks for advisors no matter whom they worked for previously.

POPSElection of Obama spurs "hundreds" of race threats, crimes Four North Carolina State University students admitted writing "Let's shoot that (N-word) in the head," in a tunnel meant for free speech. At Standish, Maine, a sign inside the Oak Hill General Store read: "Osama Obama Shotgun Pool. Stabbing, shooting, roadside bombs, they all count. Let's hope someone wins." Second- and third-grade students on a school bus in Rexburg, Idaho, chanted "assassinate Obama," a district official said. Black figures were hanged by nooses from trees on Mount Desert Island, Maine, the Bangor Daily News reported. Crosses were burned in yards of Obama supporters in Hardwick, N.J., and Apolacan Township, Pa. Their time is coming an end, and they know it: whites will no longer be the majority population in the US by 2050.

POPSWhat is Blackwater Doing in Alaska? The Blackwater guards are nominally employed by Chenega, an Alaska Native corporation associated with the Alaskan coastal village of Chenega Bay, population 86. Alaska Senator Ted Stevens, architect of the “Bridge to Nowhere” and recently convicted of a seven-felony string of corruption charges, is one of the principal proponents of the anti-missile system and was also instrumental in writing laws which help secure government contracts for Alaska Native Corporations. Chenega gets contracts through the Small Business Administration, rakes off a percentage, then lets giant Blackwater provide the actual services. Since 2000 Chenega has received over $1.1 billion in sole-source or non-compete bids from the Army, Air Force and Department of Homeland Security. It's good to have friends in high places.

POPSE-Sword Bible Software This really is the best, FREE, software on the net. I love it. Most of the Bibles, commentaries, and dictionaries are FREE but some are offered for a small download fee. You really can't beat it if you are interested on having everything at your fingertips. I recommend the NAS, Holman, and NET Bible as add-ons and The Word Study dictionary. If you're a student of the Scriptures, I hope you'll check it out. They've just had an upgrade.

POPS34 do-it-yourself holiday gifts One caveat regarding making marble magnets: silicone caulk turns yellow over time, so a year-old magnet may develop an unappealing yellow tinge. Learned that one the hard way...

POPSAngry Fundamentalist Dawkins Spews Out Rant Just kidding. But I thought I'd make fun of the cartoon representation applied to Dawkins of the rabid fundamentalist. The attached video shows the Dawkins I'm used to seeing. I'd suggest it is a bit of a stretch to characterize his manner as strident or intimidating. Compare his delivery to just about any Pentecostal preacher on any Sunday morning and the differences would be quite startling. As far as the content of this video, being familiar with his writing I've heard this argument before and think it bears further investigation.

POPSStanding out: alternative literacy ideas; teacher engages children through method from FreedomWriter
also from article: Freedom Writers started in September at Van Bokkelen, where the majority of students who attend the school qualify for the federal free and reduced-cost meals program. Teachers there selected fifth-grade girls from the Ladies Club, a group of about two dozen third-, fourth- and fifth-graders who receive lessons in etiquette, good behavior and setting goals. The girls, some of whom said they don't like school, said they look forward to Freedom Writers. The girls go through different exercises in class before two or three girls volunteer to read from their journals. Usually they learn new vocabulary. They all agree not to judge each other and to show empathy. They also agree not to share anyone's secrets. Once the girls "feel good about writing," she will work more on the mechanics of syntax, Gibson said. That way, the girls will learn to hone their skills. "They're going to be more articulate," she said. "They're going to be writing all the time."

Brilliantly laid out and very easy to follow.... I had an idea which I wanted to turn into an ebook but I didn't have a clue where to start, I had lost 24kg after struggling with my weight for 5 yrs...I wanted to get the techniques that I had used down on paper so my ebook would be of value to my readers. Paula Brett walked me through each chapter with her book, and in no time my book was born... GetFitAfterKids.com... I followed Paula's advice and each chapter of my book grew. After completing my ebook, I was amazed, everything I wanted to say was in a set organized order. Paula's book is fantastic!!

POPSFox News Cut Out From Questions At Obama's First Press Conference "For a long time, he was in love with the Fox chief, Roger Ailes, because he was even more Murdoch than Murdoch," Mr. Wolff wrote in the October Vanity Fair piece. "And yet now the embarrassment can't be missed -- he mumbles even more than usual when called on to justify it; he barely pretends to hide the way he feels about Bill O'Reilly."
