MÉXICO, D.F. 25 noviembre 2009.- Aunque Ciudad Universitaria tiene dos plantas de tratamiento de aguas residuales de tamaño considerable, sólo la tercera parte de las áreas verdes y los campos deportivos se riegan con aguas tratadas, pues ya no es suficiente su capacidad de reciclaje.

“Ya no alcanzamos ni en capacidad ni en la calidad del agua que queremos, los estándares cambiaron y hoy necesitamos más agua”, afirmó el director del Programa Universitario de Manejo, Uso y Reuso del Agua (Pumagua), Fernando González Villarreal.

La planta más grande, ubicada en la entrada de Cerro del Agua, recicla 17 litros por segundo, que es poco menos de la mitad de su capacidad, mientras que la otra, que se encuentra a un costado de la Facultad de Ciencias Políticas, limpia sólo un litro por segundo, cuando su capacidad es de siete litros y medio. Además de éstas, existe una pequeña planta en el Instituto de Ingeniería y 26 plantas tipo Brain
