More time to get lawyer
Gan's eldest son, Abd Rahman Gan Abdullah, had lodged a police report saying Gan had converted to Islam last July.

Temiang state assemblyman Datuk Lee Yuen Fong, who is assisting the family in this matter, said the Syariah Court registrar had wanted the trial to start yesterday, but the family was not ready.

"We plan to ask MCA Religious Bureau deputy chairman Koo Chin Nam, who is a syariah lawyer, to represent the family," Lee said.

Also present were Gan's wife, Chua Chun, and his seven children, who are the defendants in the application.
