Fireworks and the Fourth, With or Without the Crowds

Where to go to celebrate Independence Day

By Amy Laskowski. Photos by Richard Taffe

Each year, hundreds of thousands of people jam the Esplanade for the city’s Fourth of July concert and fireworks. The 35th anniversary of the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular, on Friday, July 4, promises to be no different. But there are other spots in and around Boston that offer great views of the pyrotechnics — with smaller crowds.

No matter the location, remember to bring water, a lawn chair, mosquito repellent, a picnic basket, and even a radio if you want to hear the Pops play while you watch.
