Avon cosmetics CEO Andrea Jung is taking a seat on the board of Apple. Why? Good question.

The world of technology is distinctly male, but if there's a high-tech company that appeals to women, it's Apple.

In China, Avon isn't a pure direct-sales operation. Instead, it operates a hybrid model that blends 5,500 retail stores, or beauty boutiques, with 130,000 direct-sales reps.

Perhaps Jobs is thinking of setting up hundreds of small Apple boutiques all over China
