Launch Date: October 2007
This month the Wall Street Journal launched a new homepage for MarketWatch that is “100% powered by user-generated content.” It is an interactive hub for posting, reading, sharing and commenting on business and investing news and engaging with other enthusiasts. There’s even a fantasy stock exchange featured on the site for users to buy and trade stocks and compete against other community members.
The site prominently features streaming user comments and a Facebook-like newsfeed of member activity on its homepage.
It also appears that the site isn’t censoring user comments to embrace complete transparency.
It is an interesting move for the WSJ to integrate social media communications and media into its lineup.
I wonder if you think WSJ’s recent sale to MySpace owner Newscorp influenced its sudden move to launch this consumer-powered network?
