اکثريت قريب به اتفاق دانشمندان نظريه تکامل چارلز داروين را قبول دارند
دادگاهی در آمريکا عليه تدريس نظريه "آفرينش هوشمند" در کنار نظريه تکامل داروين حکم داده است.

گروهی از والدين در شهر دوور در ايالت پنسيلوانيا، هيات نظارت بر مدارس دولتی را به خاطر آنکه دستور داده بود نظريه تکامل داروين نبايد تنها نظريه ای درباره نحوه پيدايش حيات در کره زمين باشد که در کلاس های زيست شناسی تدريس می شود، به دادگاه کشانده بودند.

مقام های مدرسه می خواستند نظريه "آفرينش هوشمند" داير بر اين که زندگی در کره زمين پيچيده تر از آن است که به خودی خود به وجود آمده باشد نيز در کلاس های زيست شناسی تدريس شود.
