The Illusion Of Hope Triumphs
merrie
by merrie  11-15-2008    4
The rout of our democracy by a combination of Marxist idealogues and arab cash is now well underway. Our republic is about to be subverted from within. Obama will preside over the greatest expansion of the federal government since the New Deal tilting it farther to the extreme left and towards the model of a failed european socialist state with all the concomitant dependence on government welfare. The current financial crisis will be used as an excuse for government to spread its tentacles over every aspect of our national life. He has already displayed a disturbing inclination towards suppressing criticism which will continue with the imposition of the so-called "Fairness Doctrine" on broadcasters. His tax policies and the financing required for his universal health-care program, if unaltered, will plunge us into a depression. His party of idealogue obstructionists will prohibit off-shore drilling.

Unfair and Unbalanced
spirithiker
by spirithiker  11-12-2008    4
I listen to talk radio on occasion. It is available, along with sources of opposing view points, as the result of one of America’s greatest freedoms: free speech. I have never subscribed to the idea of following only individuals that I agree with. That kind of dedication, in my opinion, stifles the mind and leads to a myopic and very narrowed view of life. Democrats are talking about ending conservative dominance of the radio dial. They would accomplish this through the Fairness Doctrine. While I don't agree with conservative ideas people like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Michael Savage and others espouse, they are experiencing a dominance because they have a following. That in itself doesn’t make what they say valid but we no more have the right to shut them down than we do to shut down liberal media outlets. Taking away freedoms granted by the Constituion is not the action of a free and enlightened society. Doing so will surely negatively affect us all.

I thought some of the hero worship would die down a little after the election. These two are being molded, shaped, characterized much like the mythical Camelot of the JFK years....only times 10! During those years we only had the likes of Walter Cronkite to give us the news we needed to know; now, well I can see why the Democrats are avid about the "Fairness Doctrine". FTA: "And now the US, like Britain before it, has begun the long slow descent into the Third World. How sad. "

Reasons Not to Vote for Barack Obama,

In His Own Words . . . . . . . . Obama’s now infamous “Spread the wealth.” And in an interview with ABC News, anchor Charlie Gibson asked, “ n each instance, when the rate dropped, revenues from the tax increased; the government took in more money. And in the 1980s, when the tax was increased to 28 percent, the revenues went down. So why raise it given the fact that 100 million people in this country own stock and would be affected? “ Obama says: “Well, Charlie, what I've said is that I would look at raising the capital gains tax for purposes of fairness.” Obama’s view of the First Amendment? Threats of criminal libel prosecutions, Justice Department intimidation, and no promise to veto the “Fairness Doctrine” if Congress passes it. Obama’s view of Iran, currently building nuclear reactors? “Iran … tiny … pose a serious threat to us. Michelle Obama’s views about her husband running for President? “It’s way too soon. He hasn’t done anything yet

Another Freedom Lost during Obama Campaign
Eaglewings
by Eaglewings  10-15-2008    4
Richmond Virginia Election officials wish to tell voters what clothing they can wear. We have seen the attempt by this congress to take away our right to bear arms. We have heard talk from this congress to silence opposing views to their socialistic policies by enacting a fairness doctrine to police the airwaves. We have seen the government takeover of private business with this so called bail out bill, and now we see the assault on freedom of speech being enacted against our citizenry. In fact I may even go as far to say it would appear that the only candidate we are allowed to vote for is Obama from all the news coverage he seems to get. And with his own organization attempting to flood the voter registrations with bogus registrants, it surely does make one think what the "h" is going on in this country?

Politically, we have not seen the benefits of a filibuster proof majority in the Senate. It seems that every Democratic Senator has decided that if you could become President they could too. Considering that they are all more qualified than you, all of them are now also running for President - with the exception of Senator Schumer, who seems to be running for the position of God. He believes that is his appropriate pay grade, since no one else has it.

Censorship Disguised as Fairness
dl211
by dl211  8-18-2008
Now, poor, abused and deprived leftist politicians are demanding the revival of what they call the Fairness Doctrine, created and enacted for a while in the 1980s, aimed supposedly at balanced use of public airwaves. You may remember that, during the life of that regulation, all media had to struggle to provide equal time to virtually any and every political opinion. It wreaked such expensive havoc and confusion on the airwaves that it became difficult to get anything on. The canny Rupert Murdoch encouraged a “fair and balanced,” though admittedly conservative, Fox News Network, and it eventually it out-rated CNN and all other cable offerings, hands down. Why? Because ordinary citizens liked what they were viewing, and collectively applauded the opinions expressed. And they greatly appreciated hearing and seeing news being reported without the obvious filtering of liberal bias. At last, somebody in broadcasting was giving the public what it clearly wanted.

"A Bridge Too Far"
merrie
by merrie  7-10-2008    1
For the past two weeks, Obama has moved quickly toward the center. He has reversed his previous positions for gun control, against using faith based institutions to deliver public services, against immunity for tele-communications companies that turn records over to the government in terror investigations, for raising Social Security taxes, for imposing the Fairness Doctrine on talk radio, and a host of other issues. In his effort to move to the center, Obama has distorted his own record, meager though it may be, and is taking credit for a program he strongly opposed. http://www.newsmax.com/morris/obama_ad_/2008/07/07/110599.html

National Conference For Media Reform And Progressive Media Outlets
merrie
by merrie  6-4-2008
As AIM has documented in the book, “The Death of Talk Radio?,” and in a TV advertisement, the movement to control the content of the media is a real danger to the First Amendment guarantee of freedom of speech. But the Broadcaster Freedom Act, which would stop the return of the Fairness Doctrine, is being bottled up by congressional liberals, who don’t want it to come up for a vote. If Obama captures the White House and gets the opportunity to appoint the FCC chairman, liberals would then have a 3-2 majority capable of bringing back the Fairness Doctrine through administrative action, without the need for congressional approval. A new Fairness Doctrine could be challenged in the courts. In the meantime, as court battles proceed, conservatives could be forced off the air by liberal FCC bureaucrats. The 2007 National Conference for Media Reform, also covered by Accuracy in Media, included members of the Revolutionary Communist party and other Marxist groups.

The Fight To Defend The First Amendment
merrie
by merrie  10-18-2007
Two precious rights – free speech and a free press – face a serious threat today in Washington as Congressional Democrats have expressed their desire for a return of the archaic “Fairness Doctrine.” This outdated and misleadingly named mandate requires broadcasters to provide equal time for “contrasting points of view.” But after nearly 40 years of trial, the FCC discontinued the doctrine in 1987 as it proved to actually stifle public debate. This is another example of Washington’s control over the will of free people, another case of the government forcing the market’s hand in pursuit of political goals.

Non-Partisan Bridge to Anger
bilber99
by bilber99  8-2-2007
The nice thing about the unbiased MSM and Democrats is that they don't play negative politics like Republicans. We all understand that more money and more taxes solve all problems in the public sector, but are a negative in the private sector. It is just a fact. We also know that nobody should expect a bridge to last over 40 years, and that Government in '67 was all under Republican control and being done "on the cheap". All it takes for humans to create perfection is more dollars in the public secoor--there is no reason to even look for a cause before we reach that conclusion. More public money is a universal good, a more private money is a universal evil. Life is simple, let the righteous anger begin. "Everyone but wingnuts in coonskin caps". Once we get the fairness doctrine back we can get rid of those nasty right-wing oafs like Limbaugh and only have unbiased decent guys like Coleman so our politics can be "civil".
