POPSNorthwest Indiana LakeNET Just found this site today, the blogging links are extremely weak so most of the "5,000+" links are pretty weak old version web 1.0 sites from chamber lists. They do host not for profit websites, mainly due to their funding coming from State grant. My humble opinion is that the board needs some web 2.0 talent, some people that actually engage in social media. The site is pretty but not all that useful yet.

POPSFollowing the Alpha Geeks for fun and profit This was extracted from the stream of messy data coming out of the DevLearn 2008 Conference... (wherever it is being held...) I love the term "Alpha-Geek" and think of myself as a Beta-Geek with Alpha-Geek tendencies.

POPSThe net generation will be challenging "Net-geners like to get things done through collaboration. It's part of their digital upbringing. They like to achieve something with other people and experience power through other people, not by ordering a gaggle of followers to do their bidding." Interesting perspective.

POPSBad news for the long tail It turns out that the long tail may not have any silver lining - online music sales effectively run down to zero faster than expected and winners take even more. It looks like the future really is going to be one or two megastars and a whole lot of one hit youtube amateurs.

POPSNew Piracy Approach "Joins 'Em" By digitally cataloging whole video libraries Auditude can quickly stick an ad on clipped and illegally posted videos. Contrast this with the Music Industry's punitive strategy to this one that uses the technology and users' penchant to appropriate, mash-up and share. This is a good example of investing in new thinking - who will do the same for education?
