Steele Running for RNC Chairman, Gingrich "Ideas Guy"
merrie
by merrie  11-11-2008
Gingrich and Steele are working together to create a new strategy for the direction of the GOP I like the direction this is heading, if correct. Michael Steele is an eminently likable guy who can communicate conservative values and ideas with competence and charm, and has always inspired the base. He comes without the significant political baggage of a Newt chairmanship, but will undoubtedly be bolstered by Newt's ideas, as Gingrich has signaled that he wants to be very involved in the remaking of a party that could use some new ideas. As for the somewhat fallacious face-off David Brooks drew between traditionalists and reformists, a Steele and Newt alliance could offer both a fresh face and fresh ideas without succumbing to the temptation to fight Democrats by becoming second-rate, imitation liberals. Both are "Hayesian reformitionalists" (see the above link) in their public pronouncements.

ME 10:217 A what kind of government maintained here will be a standing monument and example for the aim and imitation of the people of other countries?

The Audacity Hustle Exposed
merrie
by merrie  8-4-2008    1
It's all part of the Audacity Hustle. Obama is running the most audacious campaign in American history. But the Hustle only works for the real suckers. His German Tiergarten speech with "Citizens of the world!" -- a direct echo of "Workers of the world!" from the Communist Manifesto of 1848. "We are the change we've been waiting for!" It's repeated in The Obama Hustle over and over again. But it's just Fidel Castro's slogan, "La Revolucion Somos Nosotros!" --- "We are the Revolution!" Most Americans don't know that Obama's Soviet Realism pics are just imitation Lenin posters. The same thing for The Decembrist rock band to echo the Russian Decemberist rebellion. That's why the Decembrist rockers play the Soviet National Anthem to start their concerts. Get it? The whole idea that Obama is a devout Christian is another fraud; he's a militant atheist, just like Bill Ayers and Jeremiah Wright.

McCain Does Best Bush Imitation
cptenaud
by cptenaud  7-10-2008
And for a guy who claims to support the troops more than anyone, I'm always astonished that McCain would make these kinds of statements while we have troops in the field. It's a funny joke to the old guy who gets to sleep in a nice bed tonight; it's less funny to the soldier who has to deal with angry young Muslims who think America wants to destroy them.

Politics and the English Language - G. Orwell
willhelm
by willhelm  7-1-2008    1
"In our time it is broadly true that political writing is bad writing. Where it is not true, it will generally be found that the writer is some kind of rebel, expressing his private opinions and not a "party line." Orthodoxy, of whatever color, seems to demand a lifeless, imitative style. The political dialects to be found in pamphlets, leading articles, manifestoes, White papers and the speeches of undersecretaries do, of course, vary from party to party, but they are all alike in that one almost never finds in them a fresh, vivid, homemade turn of speech."  Visitors are enchanted by the spectacle. "It's so funny that he does it," said Kazuko Oshiro, 71, who frequented the temple for more than 25 years. "He gets angry when somebody else sits on his favorite spot. He must be thinking that it's his special place," he said. Conan has become so popular that people come in to take pictures almost every week, the priest said. Yoshikuni estimated the temple now receives 30 percent more visitors. American Slave Trade; Stronger than Ever
righthand
by righthand  3-12-2008
"The private contracting of prisoners for work fosters incentives to lock people up. Prisons depend on this income. Corporate stockholders who make money off prisoners' work lobby for longer sentences, in order to expand their workforce. The system feeds itself," says a study by the Progressive Labor Party, which accuses the prison industry of being "an imitation of Nazi Germany with respect to forced slave labor and concentration camps." The prison industry complex is one of the fastest-growing industries in the United States and its investors are on Wall Street. "This multimillion-dollar industry has its own trade exhibitions, conventions, websites, and mail-order/Internet catalogs. It also has direct advertising campaigns, architecture companies, construction companies, investment houses on Wall Street, plumbing supply companies, food supply companies, armed security, and padded cells in a large variety of colours." ...
