Veterans Occupy Natioanl Archives, Again
spirithiker
by spirithiker  11-16-2008    1
Members of Veterans for Peace (VFP) chose the Archives for their nonviolent protest because it is symbolic of their military oath to "defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic." In September they occupied the Archives for 24 hours, and plan to stay longer this time. Semper fi. Good luck to you all.

New British Army Division?
notareargunner
by notareargunner  8-17-2008
Does this mean that the WWI tactics employed by HM Army are now sanctioned as viable? Observers tell of the lack of training through the lack of monies spent on live firing and field crafts. The deafeningly silent commentaries at some of the real documentaries presently filling TV around the country, says more for former soldiers wish not to put harm in the way of serving personnel, than it does for the politicians who send brave British youngsters to their deaths. There are commentators who eulogise over young people who, in three short years, gain a wealth of experience of service life fighting in foreign lands. France and America turn out sergeants within this period, and in some extreme case so do the British Army. On News bulletins currently facing the public, one look tell you the Soviet/Russian Bear has learned one factor for Britain. The majority of the soldiers occupying Georgia are trained and experienced veterans. It is the experience of 22 year sergeants that binds t

The Israeli-Georgia Connection, $1 Billion and Oil
blueridge
by blueridge  8-11-2008    1
"A new pipeline is being built to bypass Russia". The news about Russia's attacks on Georgia highlighted that oil pipelines were targetted. Could this be the real reason Bush is speaking out against Russia? I was thinking how hypocritical of Bush (although I do not disagree necessarily with the conclusion) that Russia's military action was "disproportionate" (over the top) against Georgia, when he was silent on Israel's destroying of Lebanon (for capturing soldiers). Just whose or what principle interest is Bush really defending in criticizing Russia?

With Arlington Cemetery As a Backdrop, Judge Swears In 70 Immigrants
merrie
by merrie  6-16-2008
"I did it to honor our country's warriors and to give the new citizens a sense for what makes this country great," Ellis said. The judge, known for his thorough legal opinions and an occasionally irascible demeanor, said he "didn't want any politicians" attending the ceremony. After the immigrants took their oath, Ellis greeted each one personally, choking up as he hugged a new citizen wearing a U.S. Navy uniform. He then told a woman from Iraq that he was "honored that you chose to be an American." "This is truly a wonderful day," said Ellis, his voice cracking, as he gave an emotional tribute to the virtues of citizenship, U.S. history and the warriors buried around him. "It is a wonderful day for each of you, because today you will join the land of the free and the home of the brave."

Censoring Iraq Michael Yon
merrie
by merrie  5-9-2008
went to Iraq initially at the behest of military friends who insisted that what Americans were seeing on the news wasn't an accurate reflection of the reality on the ground. Two of my friends died on consecutive days. When the charred remains of American contractors were strung from a bridge in Falluja, I put aside a book I was writing to attend the funerals. In Colorado we laid to rest a Special Forces friend who'd been killed in Samara; then on to Florida for the funeral of the friend who'd been murdered and mutilated in Falluja. A photo of the dang ling corpses won a Pulitzer. I purchased and borrowed the equipment required for the journey. Camera, satellite phone, laptop, body armor, helmet, and so on. Like most of the people who would later be called "alternative media," I bore these expenses myself, including the flights to Kuwait.

Phony Senate Leader Harry Reid
merrie
by merrie  10-5-2007    2
I normally ignore Rush Limbaugh, but his comments last Wednesday went too far for me to remain silent. It's one thing to call me "Dingy Harry" (he really is "dingy") - it's another to insult our men and women in uniform, calling those who oppose the war "phony soldiers" as Rush did during his Sept. 26 broadcast. Of course, Rush continued his tirade Monday by denying he had said anything wrong and attacking John Murtha, who served 37 years in the Marines. This week, 41 Democrats signed a letter to Clear Channel CEO Mark Mays, demanding that Rush apologize.

The TAO of war
cptenaud
by cptenaud  9-28-2007    2
Therefore when the battle is joined, The underdog will win. Whenever you advise a ruler in the way of the Divine, Counsel him not to use force to conquer the universe. For this would only cause resistance. Thorn bushes spring up wherever the army has passed. Lean years follow in the wake of a great war, for no thing is so costly. Just do what needs to be done. Never take advantage of power, for that is a public display of weakness and cowardess. Achieve results, But never glory in them. Achieve results, But never boast. Achieve results, But never be proud. Achieve results, Because this is the natural way. Achieve results, But not through violence. Force is followed by loss of strength. This is not the way of the Divine. That which goes against the Divine comes to an early end. The good general knows how not to fight. The supreme general never finds war necessary. The wise soldier who safely returns home simply tills his garden, honors his wife, and listens

Is anyone surprised?
cptenaud
by cptenaud  9-22-2007    4
Meanwhile, back at the homefront, soldiers and their families continue to bear the burden and suffering of the present conflicts, ALONE. Often, those who express their deepest concern and have the highest level of awareness, are NOT in a position of power to do anything about the present debacle, and the coming avalanche of human misery. We veterans and families of military easily discuss our expereinces of betrayal we have with our governmental agencies and organizations. Yet we are somehow silent when we look at or sit next to our neighbor and fellow citizens. We accept our isolation and alienation as our fate as if we will always be misunderstood or disregarded misfits.

Silent Surge In Contractor "Armies"

Private armies doing needed work but with a vested interest to continue war. "The war-service industry, by contrast, "doesn't build weapons but has to have a hot war or an occupation going on in order to keep its budgets high," says Ms. Rasor. Constituencies will be built within the military and in Congress to promote this growing industry, she predicts."

End of a messiah.
Nightshade
by Nightshade  5-30-2007
She's lucky they're just ignoring her now. I know of one messiah that got crucified. I sympathize with her for her loss, but soldiers nowadays are no longer student conscripts. The "peace" movement she grew out of had reasons, and very good ones, in the Vietnam War because most of those dying were students conscripted for a war that was started by the darling of the Democrats: JFK. (By the way, I'm not a Republican, in case someone's thinking I am.) Her son was a warrior, or so he thought anyway, and so he became a highly-trained professional. She should not have allowed her son to become one. She did. He died. And Bush is to blame? Alone? All I can say is that there are others who have had sons and daughters killed in this war. They believed in the war. They were hurt by her messianic complaints and she got the publicity and attention. What about those who remained silent because what they believed in was not trendy and politically wise for the moment?

Body Armor debate gets redhot - FactCheck.org
bohica29
by bohica29  11-12-2006
This should be a redhot thread for anyone concerned with 'supporting our troops'. Simple fact is, if the Army orders it's troops not to use something even out of their own pocket, they can't use it. If it works better than the issued gear and people die, that is infuriating. So now that this pissing contest between army procurement and the civilian company Pinnacle has been brought out, it should be fairly covered by the press.
