POPS300-Year-Old Solar Eclipse Courtesy of those great folks at APoD, the oldest known (European) depiction of a total solar eclipse. Earlier depictions may exist in Asian sources - Arab and Chinese astronomers, for instance, made accurate notes on the supernova of 1054, which formed what is now the Crab Nebula, aka M1 & NGC 1952. The Chinese also kept accurate records of sunspots and comets long before other parts of the world did.
