POPSMegadiverse Countries I actually came across this wiki article by chance. It is a term I never heard of and find quite interesting. The list of 17 countries is unique in that it includes "highly developed" nations such as The United States and China and many nations with less "developed" economies. I put the terms in quotes because the only meaningful way of comparing nation states would be based on the humanity of their institutions and in that regard the US...well lets just leave it there. In any case, I would love to be at a meeting of these 17 nations. The environmental crisis facing the entire planet demands creative solutions and challenging efforts at cooperation. Perhaps humanity will rise to the occasion.

POPSWalking speed in different cities 32) Blantyre (Malawi); 31.60 A new study by quirky psychologist Richard Wiseman has revealed that people's average walking speed in cities has increased by 10% in the last decade. POPSSarkozy Calls Crisis EU Summit on Georgia, Russia German Chancellor Angela Merkel seems to supportive of this view. In a telephone conversation with the French President, she suggested that the EU convene a regional conference to address Georgia's reconstruction and wider stability issues in the region. But the conference would not include Russia, according to Merkel, who will explain her views in an article to be published in Der Spiegel on Monday. Earlier, while on a visit to Tbilisi on 17 August, the German Chancellor had lent her support to Georgia's NATO membership, moving away from a previously more cautious stance about the countries' affiliation to the North Atlantic military alliance. US officials have warned that the conflict in Georgia could affect Russia's membership of international organisations such as the Group of Eight industrialised nations and could undermine its bid to join the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

Mostly American and British, they included Lauren Booth, the sister-in-law of Tony Blair, the former British prime minister who is now a Middle East envoy. Many of the activists said they had received death threats before they set sail, leading some to drop out."

POPSGermany's Small Town Power Solution They actually sell their excess power at a premium to the grid. Without the laws Germany has on the books, America does not have these laws, it would not work. Now it works because people realize, there are jobs and money to be had, plus energy independence and environmental protection. Daenemark is one of the Scandinavian Countries where this also is wide spread. Too bad, America is so far behind in laws and environmental protection.

POPSThe Guided Tour, Disney Style Disney deserves some credit for its latest push into the tourism market. Since 2005, the company has been quietly sending families on guided tours to places like Peru, Italy and England. The tours involve activities for both parents and children but don't have the feeling of being "Disneyfied". Put another way, these tours have some degree of authenticity and don't make participants feel like they're stuck in a theme park. Overall, it's a great concept for the brand.

POPSWildlife in the DMZ: Vanishing rainforest of the Congo basin 1, The demilitarised zone (DMZ) separating South and North Korea is home to over 1,000 plant species and rare animals. The DMZ Forum is a lobby group promoting the idea of turning the area into a nature reserve. 2. The forest is the world's biggest after the Amazon. Now Britain and Norway have created a £108m fund to help protect it from logging and reduce carbon dioxide emissions. The Congo basin forest is home to around 50 million people in six countries including Cameroon, Central Africa Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, and Congo-Brazzaville. The Congo basin forest is twice the size of France and exceeded in size only by the Amazon. It is estimated that logging - much of it illegal - destroys an area the size of 25,000 football pitches every week. The UN estimates that at present rates two-thirds of the forest will have vanished by the year 2040.
