My goodness. Not only is this a great story, I'd like to know what they used for a title before this happened. But, the funniest thing to me is that stinky Spokane WA ever had a World's fair hosted there. That is the biggest laugh, 1974 someone was pretty stoned to think that one up eh?

Dorothea Lange - Artist With Vision Beyond The Lens Of Any Camera (Errata Clog)
ericgyoung
by ericgyoung  10-12-2009    4
In response to my clog post entitled, "Strong Support For Health Care Reform With Public Option," I have participated in some discussions about the stunning work of Dorothea Lange. As many of you may know, Dorothea Lange is the photographer/artist who took the famous picture, "Migrant Mother," which is featured in my clog. I entitled this picture incorrectly as "The Dust Bowl," so please accept my apologies for this error. If any of my clogs ever contain incorrect information of this nature, I ask that my readers let me know right away. Aside from correcting errata, I wanted to take the opportunity to highlight Dorothea Lange's work further in the clips below. I clipped these bits from the My Hero website. Dorothea Lange is an interesting individual who, in my opinion, captured the class struggles in this country better than any artist of her day with a medium that was not then fully realized. Dorothea Lange died on October 16, 1965. If you are not familiar with the life

The population delusion
Socratoad
by Socratoad  9-25-2009
"We are burdensome to the world, the resources are scarcely adequate for us... already nature does not sustain us." So wrote Tertullian, an early Christian, back in the 3rd century. At that time, the world population stood at some 200 million. Eighteen centuries on and with 34 times as many people on the planet, the debate continues.

A Letter to Congress: With All Due Respect, Are You Crazy?
merrie
by merrie  9-21-2009    1
It took good dependable cars (that were the best some people could afford) and replaced them with high-priced and less-affordable cars, mostly Japanese. A good percentage of the profits went out of the country. And the American taxpayers take the hit for Congress' generosity in burning three billion more of our dollars on failed experiments. So with a perfect 100 percent failure rate and a record that proves that "services" you shove down our throats are failing faster and faster, you want Americans to believe you can be trusted with a government-run health care system? 20 percent of our entire economy? With all due respect: Are you crazy? Brought to you by the editors and research staff of FamilySecurityMatters.org. Editor’s note: We don’t know who wrote this – it’s making the rounds on the Internet – but we agree wholeheartedly with the sentiment.

Living with the Wall: Berlin 1961-1989
cakebelly
by cakebelly  9-12-2009    4
" The fourth-generation wall was constructed from 45,000 sections of reinforced concrete, each 3.6 metres high, at a cost of around $3.6 million. The top of the wall was lined with a smooth pipe to make it more difficult to scale, while it was further strengthened by mesh fencing, trenches, barbed wire, 116 watchtowers and 20 bunkers. The heavily-guarded "no-man's land" between the wall and West Berlin would become known as the "Death Strip". Around 200 people are believed to have died trying to escape East Berlin."

"While we reject its finding that the government is liable for malicious prosecution, we uphold the court's alternate finding that the government is liable for intentional infliction of emotional distress," the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said on Thursday. "We conclude that the awards, though high, are not so grossly disproportionate to the harm sustained as to either shock our collective conscience or raise the specter of a miscarriage of justice."
